Combat Athletes And the Gym

People that do that stuff look like wannabes or idiots.

We had a couple of douchebags that did this in my old gym. They looked like morons, but I am sure they must have been world champions practicing their “art.”

There is a time and place for shadowboxing and it is not in front of the dumbbell rack.

LOL. But what about the little guys!? You just hate them because they aren’t as big as you. The truth is, every guy with nearly zero muscle mass doing side kicks into he air while standing 2 inches in front of the rack is secretly ninja trained in the seven deadly arts of whoopassery and specializes in killing people with muscular bodies twice their own body weight. Maybe if they punch air a little harder they will finally look cool?

Funny… not in the least a pathetic attempt at humour that you have used at least 2 times already in this thread alone.

But you had me laughing.

/sarcasm

ok so there’s alot of combat athletes in here so if this might apply to some of you (in hope it doesn’t)…

I absolutely HATE it when some retard does some gay martial arts shit between sets, reps etc…

I mean its a fucking gym for lifting weights, why the hell do you have to start shadow boxing, kicking, doing patterns etc???

Like the other day this guy, in between his sets started doing some shadow boxing and kept making these really gay “sh” sounds after each punch… i mean like WTF??

If you’re one of these guys that likes to do this kind of thing:

No, noone cares that you do martial arts and noone wants to see it.

Yes, you look like a fucking tool.

end rant.
If the guy ever benches or squats heavy, offer to spot him and when he gets stuck walk away. Works every time.

You want to know what gets me pumped at the gym? … Like I paint my nails in between sets and stuff because I feel it gives me such a great pump. Then, when I lift that weight, I say to myself “OOWOH, you are so strong and sexy!!”

Come on man, what do you train for? A big bench? Go to Westside. Bodybuilding? Hit up Golds @ Venice beach (or whereever the fuck “proffesional” bodybuilders train).

This is T-Nation. On the splash page it mentions combat athletes wit hthe same respect as powerlifters and bodybuilders, so fuck right off for shunning us at the gym. I’m personally tired of you dropping you weights when you’re done or your dumbass posing routines.

And in the same respect as combat athletes “showing off” with different moves or shadow boxing… stop showing off then with your 650lb deadlift singles. I mean, who cares how much you can lift?

(Of course I understand and respect what a single rep can do for an athlete training ME, but its just showing off as much as shadow boxing is)

We all train. Get over our differences.

THE GYM is not the dojo. It is where people go to lift weights- NOT to shadow box. If somebody was military pressing a heavy bag in an MMA gym people would probably give him shit too, just because its not the place you go to that certain activity, even though they aren’t using the bag. It’s just annoying.

I saw this guy in the gym bench 405 for a few reps, but he was obviously just showing off. I mean its clearly just showing off.

I’d have to see the guy for sure, but considering he’s making a “gay” shh sound… He might do Muay thai.
LMAO. Anyone who has watched a boxing match should know to exhale on his punches. That doesn’t take formal training to pick up.

I’ve seen guys do this. They are usually the smallest people in the gym also. I have always thought it was their way of being noticed. They wouldn’t stand out otherwise so they make a show of every training session even though it is clear they are just showing off.
I’ve seen in twice in my gym. Both times, the guys were tiny. They didn’t even have the disproportionately large legs a serious student of muay thai almost always has. Plus, their technique was way off.

They wanted to be noticed. Like the karate guys who make Bruce Lee noises or the fat guy who grunts after every rep. LOOK AT ME!

Great post. You have good critical thinking skills. I think I read elsewhere that you’re still in high school. If that’s the case, you should do well in college. Often people who hate high school do very well in college. I hated high school and had a low GP, but was a top student in college and law school. So keep an open mind about your studies. I think you’ll enjoy them and do very well.

I have to agree that it seems rather unnecessary. I’ve seen guys doing shadow boxing while jogging the track which makes a lot more sense. I figure if you feel the need to shadow box, then work it into your regular cardio. And if you’re not doing regular cardio, then you probably have no business shadow boxing in the first place.
