A place I go to uses 1 part “coconut milk” (coconut meat strained with water through cheese cloth) with 3 parts coconut water. I swear the stuff is as good as a Vanilla Milk Shake. Although, I must agree with several posters, more than a glass tends to loosen the bowels more than appreciated.
i used too much coconut oil one night for eggs/bacon and the wife’s stomach was really bothering her shortly after. Mine didn’t feel so hot either, there’s a fine line.
the coconut milk I had was only 280 cals for 32oz, doesn’t sound that calorically dense for how filling that fluid is.
I’m not sure if the confusion is intentional or not, but some of you are talking about coconut oil and others coconut milk. The milk usually comes in a 14oz can and can easily be used as a soup base. The oil is the consistency of soft butter and I couldn’t imagine eating more than a tablespoon or so at a time.
When cooking with coconut milk, keep the heat low otherwise it will curdle. The dish will still taste fine, but it won’t look appetizing.
Cream of coconut goes into pina coladas, not to be mixed up with milk or oil.

Would you add more than a dollop of butter, olive oil etc? I think results with eating 12 oz of fat in one sitting would be pretty consistent regardless of the specifics. I think the pleasing flavor can lead people to over do coconut milk, but I’m skeptical that there is any thing about the stuff that makes it inherently difficult to digest.
You are right, but then coconut milk is not like butter or oil in terms of fat %. C’milk had a high proportion of water, whilst oil and butter have none.
So the comparison isn’t really valid IMO.
But if you want to stick with the comparison, then perhaps you can tell me why you don’t add more than a dollop of olive oil to a shake. The usual answer (besides the macro numbers) is because it makes it hard to digest.
In other words, liquid fat can be hard to digest.

Why do you suppose liquid fat is hard to digest? Is it because in the form of a liquid it moves through the GI tract quicker now allowing thorough breakdown?

A tablespoon or two of coconut oil, not milk, works really well in shakes for me. The coconut oil also tastes good and can be taken straight, kind of like the “olive oil shooter” idea I read about on this site for bulking.
I agree. I use protein powder with banana taste, add a real banana and some coconut oil. Great combination. But coconut milk is good too.
