80mins? If a films not 1hr 42mins at least then my first judgement is that its shit. Or a comedy, well, shit. I shall see when I see it on Tues. I hope its not anywhere like Godzilla (1998)
Didnt like it =/
Gave me a headache, i saw it in theaters.

84 minutes, actually. No THAT much less than 102 min.
Shorter movies seem to be a trend right now:
97 min - Bucket List
97 min - Charlie Wilson’s War
96 min - First Sunday
85 min - Grace is Gone
100 min - I am Legend
91 min - Juno
88 min - Teeth

I could watch your avatar for 80 minutes.

i left 30 minutes into the movie[/quote]
My girlfriend and I also left at around this time.
I saw it a couple of days ago. Thought it was very good, the way it was filmed made it seem more real and I think this made the film work. I found myself totally captured throughout the whole film. I especially liked how one minute they were in the party then it all just went crazy. Excellent.
I always laugh when people say they left early, and think they are smart or something, well smart arses you paid to see the whole film and walked out early, LOL, do you only eat half a chocolate bar as well, do you only do half a workout as well, or pay a years membership at a gym and then change gyms after 6 months.
There was some viral marketing that explains A LOT of the background of the movie, which I can go through in depth later if you want me to…but…
SPOILERS
If you wait till the very end of the movie after the credits a voice whispers “It’s Still Alive” backwards.
saw it on DVD (that was fast!).
Not bad if you can swallow the basic idiocy of the main characters. Required in order to shoot the film that way, but hard to suspend disbelief.
Loved it, very refreshing for me. Would buy on DVD if I had more disposable income and a kickass sound system.
I didn’t like it
hate that kind of camera usage
folks would not be acting that way
Near perfection. They covered all the bases.
I don’t know how the hell they did the special effects within a shaky, hand-held cam format. I loved how we weren’t given too much info, and were as in the dark as the characters were.
Spoiler Alert
The dynamic effort (DE) method is one of three ways (the other two being the maximal effort and repetition method) to develop muscular force, and as a result, strength. One of the best, and coincidentally one of the least utilized, ways to get stronger is to get faster. By utilizing the dynamic effort method, you’re teaching yourself to explode through those sticking points that serve as obstacles in your pursuit of progress.
There were quite a few uneasy, uncomfortable scenes, but the one in particular which made me feel almost sick and hopeless was near the end when they boarded the chopper and flew above the city. At that moment, we see the creature getting hammered by military assault. The creature looks like it is being defeated and it tries to escape, while reaching it’s huge arm up and raking it down the side of a skyscraper. This is where we first truly get a sense of its size. Somehow, that made me very uneasy and I felt like something bad was about to happen, as the next scene proved. The dynamic effort method is generally used for the “big three” movements (squat, bench press, and deadlift) using loads of 50 to 70% of your one-repetition maximum (1RM). On any given week, one training session would begin with a DE bench variation, and another would start with a DE squat/deadlift variation.
This is a strange movie for me because while it will never be one of my favorites, I would recommend it to anyone. The idea around it was very creative, and the possibilities for sequels (or even prequels) are endless.
They could make a couple more movies in this style, and then make one that’s more conventional and covers the arrival and destruction of the monster.
I’m glad they finally announced they were releasing it on Blu-Ray this month.
I loved the movie. I made the mistake of getting there late when I saw it in the theater and was forced to sit in the front row.
Overall it does a good job of conveying the fear, helplessness, and dread facing people in a situation like that. On the other hand, the characters are so fucking stupid and annoying. Yeah, “I’m going to travel straight into the ‘belly of the beast’ to rescue my cunt ex-girlfriend who had the nerve to bring along some douche to MY party”.
It’s also extremely short. Not even 80 minutes of footage(the credits are slow and long). I watched it on DVD, and while I liked it for the most part, I would never pay $10 to see a movie that short in a theater.
lol. i would never pay $10 to see a movie.
It was OK, but nothing worth getting excited about. Story telling was quite poor but the CGI and cam-style made up for it.
Give it up kids! This one ain’t making it anywhere near posterity.
