If im not completely wrong i here i believe they use the front leg as sensors, feeling heat, enviorment etc. So when he raised the front legs i dont think it was because he was ready to attack.

Argh, I’d get a shovel and kill it, or deodorant and a lighter.
I hate spiders, but strangely enough I want a pet tarantula just to freak people out.
