Cardio Queston RE: TVixen Split Program

Was wondering what your thoughts were in relation to doing the cardio after strength work instead of breaking it up into morning/cardio evening/weights??

I thought that I had read somewhere that doing a 20min (min)cardio session after a weights session lowers glycogen levels? Which is better for muscle recovery?? So I’ve been thinking and doing, just that… I’m training a split program which is very similar to the one perscribed BUT I’m doing 30 mins cardio after each session?? I’m seeing results in BF% reduction… nothing fantastic but hey… you accept what you can!! AND as it is I can only get to 30mins before I feel like falling on my ass! Doing another 10mins - Bloody hell!

I know, I know… if it aint broke don’t fix it… but as the article pointed out… we are hormonal, fickle creatures!! I know I am! And if I can get better results doing the same thing another way, than by George I’m gonna try it!

Any thoughts and comments, greatly appreciated…

This is very dependent on your goals.

You are going to sacrifice gains from the gym (more than likely, also very individual like every other part of life) by doing your cardio along with your weights.

Also, are you working out day or night. One reason for many ppl doing their cardio in the AM and weights @ night is to get to full use of the prolonged fat burning from the cardio session. Do a search on EPOC for some further info… Though you also get much of the same effect from weights.

Fact is I dont think there is ever going to be a clear cut single answer to this subject. You simply have to try things out and see what works best for you. I for example, (when cutting) do AM HIIT on non training days. On training days I do HIIT or other cardio @ night because I perfer to lift in the AM. I have also been known to do some low intensity cardio post wo for 15-20 mins.

That most likely made it clear as MUD,
I tried

Thanks for you input… I’m doing strenght training in the afternoons (the only time I get, really) I could do cardio in the morning, but mornings and me… we don’t get along!

Pardon my ignorance, but I am only new to the site… what does HIIT mean? I’ve seen it around alot?? Is there somewhere on the site that has the meanings of all theses abbreviations??

I really don’t want to sacrifice my gains but the eternal fight for me at least, is BF% reduction!

Thanks again… I’ll keep lifting and researching!!

ugh…i keep reading that doing the AM cardio and weights at night (or vice versa) is a better idea than cardio after weights. but if there’s one thing i hate…it’s 2 showers a day and working out with the stinky guys at night  call me fickle…

i’m on a bodypart 2x a week and cardio 4x a week program right now. it’s high volume but i’m getting used to it. i have a bit of fat to lose.

i will admit that the one time i did AM cardio it burned more fat than i’d ever experienced. i guess if you’re willing to sacrifice your mornings you’ll do it

Chester,

No prob.

Your a good lad Phill!! Thx! I’ll read up…

Just got back from that infernal place actually and closed my eyes while some personal trainer used those nasty calipers on me to measure my only hate in life… So currently BF% is at 20% well just a smidge under… What I wouldn’t give to be a nice 15% - You boys with your single digits… :frowning: You suck!!! lol!

Now all I need is someone to kick my ass out of bed in the mornings so that I can try this cradio craze!!

Chester_blu…

aw come on now. if you were in the single digits you’d look like a strip of bacon. and that’s not cool.

for the women i’ve trained and trained with, cardio in the traditional sense is still way over rated. i like the idea kristen is getting out about boxing and jump rope and plyos. now if we could only get them to swing a sledgehammer or drag sleds… cardiovascular work is fine and dandy with numerous benefits greater than fat oxidation, as long as women don’t try to substitute it for resistance training (cough…mom). there are far too many benefits for women regarding bone density and body comp especially that come along with resistance training so in my opinion it must be staple and prioritized over cardiovascular work.

KC… I’m not saying I want to be in the single digits… I’ll leave that for the boys!! But 15 or 12% would be fan-bloody-tastic!! For the moment I’m much keener to watch my strength grow, upping my loads every week, so cardio is not my main focus… But I do understand it’s value! Give me 3mths and we’ll see where I’m at then… Thanks for your comments KC…
