What about the right to live and not get your ass crashed into a building? Last time i checked that was one of those inalienable rights.
Some thing to keep in mind here is that these background checks is that they only target American citizens and resident aliens. Foreigners are not subject to this. At this time foreigners are our biggest percieved threat.
Hell, they dont even do background checks at our borders. If we were to implement something like this for securty purposes, wouldn’t make sense to do it at the border rather than target americans?
I think the idea was conceived with good intentions, but it’s just a dumb idea that needs to be stopped. Whether or not you have something to hide is irrelevent. It is your personal information being used in a way you have no control over. That is wrong. My parents escaped communism and went through hell doing it, just so I could be free. I will fight everything I percieve as an encroachment to that freedom. Don’t think just because we have the stars and stripes that our freedoms cannot be touched. They can and have been in the past. It’s our jobs as citizens to make sure it stays that way. We are not to be sheep to be led, we are to take charge and lead. Sometimes we will win sometimes we will lose but we can never stop trying.
Actually, I appreciate the accurate Ben Franklin quote, mine was a paraphrase.

If you take another look at my post, you’ll see that I said “The brilliance… of the Sept 11 attacks lay in its simplicity”. While the Clancy connection escaped me at the time of that post, I wasn’t calling the terrorists geniuses. I was merely remarking that it was an ingenious plan, regardless of whom devised it. Not only that, but the plan was both simple and easy (box cutters weren’t even illegal to carry on board at the time).
