I sense that the youth vote probably went down the tubes with HIGH rates of disaffected young people, this election.
I can certainly see (now that I work for our “pizza parliament” government) where the changes will hit hardest.
I was never a big Pierre Pettigrew fan… but I somehow feel that of all people, Stockwell Day would be an absolute nightmare for FAC and the progress we have made with Small arms, Nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty and the Ottawa convention.
shudder.
If ever we were just considered an American clone, this election just put it into policy.
To that effect - a strong opposition could at least enforece more legislative accountability (as much as “accountability” exists in practice…)
Oh well.
Of course, all of this is said with respect for the varying ideological beliefs and opinions of others.
Hells, that’s what makes Canada fabulous. (If not the frigid winters).
Hahahahaha… some awesome bits in there =) I had always wondered why they had disappeared – I think it really sucks that they were effectively banned from federal politics. Part of the Canadian identity is satire in politics. Look at Rick Mercer’s coverage of the elections for example.

Congrats Canadians! I hope your new PM will be more fiscally conservative than our President Bush. Bush is a fine man but lets Congress spend, spend, spend. He’s too nice to say ‘No!’[/quote]
Thanks! I think Harper is too smart to mess with the economy – that’s a good part of what tarnished the Conservative name for 13 years.
His social conservatism worries me a little more, but like I mentionned before, at least he doesn’t have a majority.
let me first say that i dont have any party affiliation. i am for canada. i like certain things stephan harper has said about make politicians acountable for there actions. but he misses one underlying fact. the liberal national child care program is a excellent idea. the term it takes a village to raise a child is true. the fact is that if he scraps the program he will be hurting poor families. if he designs to reform it then he could give a $1200 yearly benifit for those who wish to have nanny.
look at it like this…garbage pickup is a service provided to you though your taxes. if he decide that he would give u $700 a year to get rid of your own garbage would you take it. now what if half the counrty wanted that 700. bam…get rid of your own garbage at your own cost. now dont you think your kids should be treated better than garbage…not worse and btw i dont have kids and would gladly give my taxes to ensure that a mother can get a job and have her children in an educational enviroment with professionals
