This interests me too. It’s be interesting to see the big pharmaceutical companies wrestling with them for control of the market. Things could get very nasty. [/quote]
It might turn out to be big for the cartels because they’ll have a new avenue for money laundering.

Yeah because after alcohol was legalized the mob made more money and became more powerful, oh wait

I don’t think they’d make more money. I don’t know if they’d make any money. I don’t know if they’d go legit. I don’t know what they’d do. It’s such an enormously complicated situation that anyone who claims to be able to predict what would happen is talking through their hole. You’d have to have a comprehensive knowledge of both international drug crime and the pharmaceutical industry (both staggering topics in and of themselves), not to mention politics, trade etc.
lol If pot was legalized the mexican drug cartels would be DONE for.
As soon as the legislation passed some of the largest US corporations would already have facilities built and ready to start production before the ink dried.
The domestic production and distribution would render the cartels absolutely financially crippled. If they were really worried about any type of “retaliation” the corporations producing the pot would simply lobby the fuck out of Washington until they beefed up border security to an all time high.
The cartels would be left with no other option than to start pushing harder drugs into the US, which would fail, who would worry about a cocaine high when you can get stoned with no worry of arrest? So they’d eventually have to try to start a legit business and compete as an imported product, which would probably fail as well.
I doubt pot production is a major concern to cartels. Heroine is a much better use of resources, way more valuable, and way more portable.
Domestic production has been on the rise for a long time though.
Controlled and legitimate production and distribution would pull the rug out of the domestic black market from top to bottom.
Why would you buy a gram on the corner for $10.00(2 bits of shake, a stem and some seed) if you could buy the equivalent to a pack of cigarettes with a guaranteed level of quality and quantity at a 7/11 for equal or less price?
The black market for it would be destroyed, as would the drug related crime that goes along with the petty street corner wanna be gangsters, the shoot outs between the larger quantity movers, and the problems that arise when people are protecting their crop.
Contrary to Gettinitdone, I would say that keeping it illegal is immoral as it funds the black market and related crimes, and completely cost DEfective (as the model he proposed for funding is already in place, and Totally not working).

I think the money made for dealing with a gram for gram situation , Heroin would definitely win. But the market for marijuana is huge the market for heroin is small in comparison

But the large producers have switched over to opium poppy for heroine production. True, the market for pot is huge, but so is the product.
You would need a freighter full of weed in a port equipped to unload it to equal the value of a cigar boat or a team of mules sneaking across the border with heroine.
The logistics of bringing a profitable(in international trade terms) quantity of weed into this country make it not very interesting.
On the other hand, 10 guys carrying 20 keys of heroine each, is very interesting from a possibility/profitability standpoint.
Do you think that the drug war through out Central America has heated up as much as it has to establish land based trade routs for weed?

Legalizing pot will ultimately add to the moral decomposition of the United States.
I say keep it illegal and use the arrested drug money to fund law enforcement.
Because think about it, when they start legalizing pot they’re inviting the presence of other drugs.
Just my opinions, not that I really give a crap.

Not to be argumentative , but I consider to be a moral person requires me to mind my own business and not try to control other people . The Drug Marijuana is NONTOXIC has no PHYSICAL addiction. Considering the cost to combat this drug I consider it not only immoral but hugely expensive . IMO the reason law enforcement want this drug to be illegal is so they (LAW ENFORCEMENT)can search anybody , anytime all is the name of drugs . It is a huge tool to L.E.

Smoke OF ANY KIND is toxic to the body. We are meant to breathe ambient air, just sayin’.

Using smoke as a delivery method is the easiest , but making oil or butter are an easy method as well.
