You thinking about having her go for a consult yet?
Normal levels for women is 15-70 ng/dL, so she is low. A 20mg weekly dose for a women will more than likely get her past high normal. There are some doctors who say more is better, a few hundred.
Only issue is estradiol appears low to. Was close to 60. So if we increase her t …ratio may be a big problem.
I think she needs to lose weight first. She’s not even fucking exercising.
I hear ya brother. I may be wrong because I’m just now starting to learn about the female side of this business (and I really don’t have a firm handle on the male side either lol), but I think that in women the more important ratio is estradiol to progesterone. Not so much the T to E2 like it is in men. Again, I could be way off.
The better approach I’m thinking (at least so far) when it comes to females is to focus strictly on total hormone optimization, not so much on testosterone like we do. If our test gets in line, our body tends to balance everything else out over time. Women are different beasts altogether.
Update…
Been on the new protocol for a little over two weeks now (150mg / week (50mg M W F)). Up until two days ago, it’s been pretty hectic trying to adjust to the increase.Anxiety and weird feelings in the chest area. Not so much like burning or itching or anything E2 related, but more like a quick adrenaline shot to the heart type shit followed by the inevitable “here comes the heart attack” thoughts and then the immediate elevated HR. Wash rinse repeat. Insomnia (mostly related to the aforementioned anxiety) has been a bitch. So much so that my wife and I decided to take the week off from working out this week to hopefully allow things to settle.
The night before last, I finally got a full 7 hours of sleep and had a decent day yesterday. Last night I slept for 7 hrs again, and I woke up this morning feeling more stable, and mentally focused than I think I ever have in my life. Hopefully this trend continues.
I think I may be starting to level out a bit. If my “normal” after everything stabilizes is anything like today, then I will definitely be able to relate on a whole new level when someone mentions being able to feel the benefits of TRT. I never felt this on my old protocol. I felt WAY better on that protocol than I did before I started, but it wasn’t great. It was more of a “Thank God I don’t feel like shit anymore!” type of feeling, which to me — Compared to how I felt before TRT-- was life altering! Lol.
Added a new addition to the family!

This week sleep has been getting a little better. Not great but seems like I’m getting at least 6-7 hrs on average now. Found the machine on Craigslist for a couple hundred bucks ($300 actually) so, for that and about a day’s work of tearing it down, bringing it home, and putting it back together again, I’ve added quite a few more exercise possibilities to our routine. Can’t wait to jump back on the wagon tomorrow!
Here’s a pic of our current gym setup.
I talked to my doc a couple weeks ago about not being able to get below 100 on fasting blood glucose no matter what or how I eat. He agreed to put me on metformin 500mg ER every day.
I started that Wednesday. In your experience, how long will it typically take being on this regimen before I should start seeing any difference in my FBG readings?
Great to see you in met. Keep us updated. I start next week … any sides? I hear some have stomach issues from detox after starting the meds.
Hi bmbrady, I just started metformin myself 3 days days ago. I am taking 500mg morning and 500mg at bedtime. I’m thinking of cutting that in half say 1/2 a pill morning the other half bedtime. I am guessing our A1C and blood gluecose should both go down when we do bloods.
Do you have a blood sugar level finger stick meter? That should show you something right away I would guess.

I do have a meter. I have one that’s Bluetooth so all of my readings are transmitted to my phone app, and I can generate reports from there.
I’m usually only testing FBG, because I seem to regulate after meals to below 140 within a couple hours. I just can’t get the stabilized levels down to below 100, which I keep being told is a warning sign?
Here’s my report…
I guess we’ll figure it out together brother! Lol
No sides so far man. I just take 500mg per day and I take it in the morning with the first bit of food (or rather the first sip of my protein shake lol). No issues whatsoever so far.
Now I DID have some issues with the 25mg DHEA elevating my BP a small amount. Because of this, I quit taking it at night and started taking it in the mornings. It’s weird I know, but any time my BP changes I can feel it in my entire body. I’m very sensitive to it and I can feel the pressure increase like in my neck and chest. Freaks me out sometimes.
That’s why I changed to mornings. If I’m up and moving I don’t notice the changes quite so much as I do when I’m still and trying to get to sleep at night.
Those reading are really early in the morning. Have you heard of dawn phenomenon.
What’s your BG at say around 10am or 2 hours post breakfast?
I would enjoy sharing notes on this with you. I sure hope it helps us both.
Yes I’m aware of pre dawn, and I know that’s definitely some of it, but does that come into play when you wake up several times at night? I don’t know?
Ironically it’s been around 3 hours since we ate breakfast right now after our workout. About to leave and go do cheat lunch with my wife in just a bit. Here’s my reading right now.
Today’s schedule so far.
5:00 am woke up (only woke up once last night)
6:00am - ~8:00am workout (leg day and 25min cardio)
8:30 Breakfast (Protein and Coffee Shake, and 1/4 cup steel cut oats with 1/4 cup huckleberries)
That’s about it so far lol.
Your not alone I feel weird with higher BP as well. Heads gonna pop or something… very odd… I think folks with higher Bp get used to it. Some guys don’t even realize there borderline until they get tested. Then realize there symptoms that were written off…
Geez I hate that shit!! Lol
When I first changed protocols and the anxiety was going crazy, I was laying in bed awake just about every night just waiting for the heart attack to hit!! Lol
You lift for 2.5 hours?
Not on leg day. That’s about 1.5 hrs and ~20min cardio combined.
When I’m running heavy lift routines it’s anywhere from 1-1.5 hrs on most days (2 groups per session). When I’m doing light weight slow rep routines it can take slightly longer because of the slow rep times.
103 3 hours after eating is a bit high. No where near diabetes high but still it looks like you have caught this early and lets hope the metformin knocks this down to sub 100. I’d be happy with 90-99 2 hours past breakfast.
That’s EXACTLY what I’m hoping for brother! My pcp said she wouldn’t give me anything unless it got above 150! Basically, let’s wait until you have diabetes before we do anything!! I’m so glad that you guys told me about Defy. Dr Calkins thinks more like I do in the fact that I would rather get something under control BEFORE it gets blown out of proportion.
Yes I pretty much own him for my new lease on life.
Just food for thought I’m not trying to change your metformin script.
Metformin/Half life
6.2 hours
It is cleared from the body by tubular secretion and excreted unchanged in the urine; metformin is undetectable in blood plasma within 24 hours of a single oral dose. The average elimination half-life in plasma is 6.2 hours .
I am not sure how one gets to a steady state on a drug that leaves the body so fast.
I don’t have a scrip for met I buy from india. I started out at 500mg x2/day but this morning I cut that to 250mgx2/day. I will give this dose a month and if my blood suger has not dropped I plan to go to 500x2/day
I just did bloods for Defy 6 month checkup and before the metformin came in.
Glucose FH117 range 65-99mg/dL so that is quite high for fasting.
