Not yet. The only plan on the initial consult was get free T in a better place and then see where the chips fell on this follow up. I’m anxious to hear what he thinks about the numbers now.

Test?
Free test?
SHBG?

Read brother.

It’s posted above.

Just spoke with Dr. Calkins…

Here’s the overview…

We are going to keep my protocol exactly where it is.

Concerning Fast Blood Glucose, he said he wasn’t too concerned because the last A1C that I had didn’t show too high. That being said, because I am having an issue getting FBG below 100, and I’m having such a hard time getting those last few pounds of fat to drop, We are going to bump up the Metformin to 1000mg / day (500mg morning/night).

Concerning TSH, he stated that since my RT3 looked great on the last bloods, and my TSH has dropped significantly since then, we are going to leave thyroid alone for now.

I’m so glad I don’t have to change protocols again. Follow up again in 6 mos.

Sounds good.

What was the discussion about metformin? Is this short term?

We went back and forth about raising the dose a couple of times, and finally decided to try it and see if insulin sensitivity (or is it resistance?) have anything to do with my fasting BG and metabolism. We are going to keep it at 1000mg / day for the next 6 months at least, unless I start having some kind of unforeseen negative reaction.

It sounds like you had a good consult. I take 500mg morning 500mg dinner time.
I have that dawn phenomenon first thing in the morning my BS is 130-131 constant.
Now 6 months on metformin its 109 my 2 hour post meal has dropped from 99 to 85
I am happy. Even with this improvement I can still lose my abs if my E2 drifts too high.
35 and higher I hold water or at least I think its water.

New addition…

Built a self spotting adjustable DB Rig.

Wow that is interesting. So if the DB gets away from you you just let go?

Yeah that’s correct. The most useful part about it though is being able to start with the DB’s already in a safe position for your shoulders. When you go heavy on DB’s, the most dangerous (and tricky) part of the routine is getting those massive things from your lap into a press position without putting a huge strain on your shoulder joints…at least for me anyways.

I made the first version with ropes. The ropes would just stretch too much when you added more weight and you would have to keep re adjusting the height, and the adjustability was not quite as easy as the current setup.

All the steel components are rated for 800-1000lbs so I think it would be safe for at least a 10-12” drop with 100lbs or a little more.

So true so many times I would like to go heavy with DBs but I get scared and go back to the smith machine for the safety it offers. At my age I can’t take risks. I’ve really been pushing it lately on day 50 of a 12 week cycle and my shoulders are starting to complain.

My favorite non stretch rope is called amsteel. Check it out you can make a tow rope with 1/4" the stuff is amazing. It tears before it stretches.

Man be careful using the smith for presses. One of the most terrible machines to use for presses. The fixed plane doesn’t let your shoulders rotate naturally during the movement. You’d be way better off doing free weight presses, using much lower weights and doing very slow controlled reps until failure.

Love it.

Smart

You never tried putting them On knees and kicking up as you lay back?

Yep sure did… Didn’t work too well with 100lb DB’s.

Also it hurts the hell out of my leg when I accidentally turn it the wrong way and the clamp gets lodged in my thigh!! lol

Doesn’t bother me to much on a flat bench, except possibly busting a blood vessel in the head bracing myself coming down. Something like that for incline and shoulder presses would be a game changer though. Trying to throw anything over 80’s up there just doesn’t work well.

That’s what is great about the adjusting mechanism (carabiner type) on this. I can go flat to incline to decline very easily.
