It is the ethanol, and the weak dollar that has driven the price up - at least to a much higher degree than diesel prices have.

I believe all three have had an impact, and combine to really push the prices higher.
I may believe that the oil, and price of diesel have more of an impact then you, but it all needs to be dealt with.
Cut, if not eliminate, the subsidies. Open more areas to drilling for oil. Build more Nu-Q-Ler plants, and more refineries. Gag Al Gore, and all the extremist environmentalists. (Just the ones who cannot tell the truth, and those who are too dumb and biased to know what truth actually is.)
If we really want to go green I think the government of each country should give people a tax credit for solar power.
Example: you spend 40 grand to make your house entirely solar power. The government then doesn’t charge you any tax on the next 40k that you would usually owe. Could take 1 year for you to get to that limit could take a decade but you wouldn’t pay until the limit is reached.
Now this wouldn’t work in all parts of the world but it would help especially if wind energy was inlcuded. It is too bad that tidal wave energy and some of the other exotics arn’t very efficient.
A positive energy balance is not the only parameter taken into account.
How long does it take to get that positive energy balance to market and how much does it cost? Entrepreneurs will take this into account and determine which is more worth while to produce.
