Ya know what’s irrational? Beginning a post with the statement that “faith is irrational” and then spending the rest of it loudly proclaiming one’s faith. Church HeadHunter. When? You can bring all your multiple personalities with you.

I have spoken directly to and with God. Faith had nothing to do with it.
If I go to church, I worship a false idol. God gave us each a brain and told us that our highest function was to use our minds. Therefore I praise human intellect and thank God for creating same.
T, until you reject completely any and all faith, any and all churches, they will stand between you and God. You will never know God.

I’d imagine the same way you know your faith is true. Through ya know faith.
Not according to him.

If he is speaking of personal revelation thats faith.

The devil doesn’t exist. But let’s assume there is such an entity; would this entity tell you that thinking, using the brain you were given, is a penultimate goal? If so, might not that brain discover God?
Humans have as their defining characteristic the ability to think using reason. Whatever maintains or enhances that is Good. Whatever harms that is Evil.
Which one of these ^^^^ does church/blind faith encourage?
Proof?
Proof?!
ephrem wrote:Proof?!
You guys are like clockwork =] See if this sounds familiar. “on the basis of autonomous finite AND sinful human logic, NO proof of ANYTHING is possible”. Someone bearing a striking resemblance to myself and wearing my clothes has said that about a thousand times. HE’S the one proclaiming his faith free existence which must mean he has proof. No? Think about it. I’m askin for it.
I have lots of work Ephrem which I very badly need. DrMatt and I wil continue soon I hope.

If I don’t trust my own judgment, then whose judgment should I trust? How can I judge to trust their judgment?
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!

Religion was invented by men but for the opposite of what you think. Religion was invented to SEPERATE us from God. God wants to speak to us but we have put FALSE IDOLS between ourselves and God. Why did the whole Reformation happen? Because roman catholicism, the worst of the lot, had completely made talking to God a sin; only priests could do this.
Man is made in God’s image. The highest attribute of Man is his mind. So thinking should be our highest virtue. But faith destroys that, demanding that we shut off our reason and accept faith in its place.
The whole purpose of organised religion is centered in hatred of Man and his mind. Organised religion seeks to seperate man from God and put itself in God’s place. As such, it really is evil incarnate.

A fellow Deist I see, except I don’t adhere to the whole “Made in God’s image” bit. I suppose some really do imagine “him” as the deity painted on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
Legionary wrote:<<< some really do imagine “him” as the deity painted on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
That would most definitely not be me. What number is this one btw HeadHunter?
Hahaha do you think that I am Headhunter’s “3rd account”? Sorry to disappoint you, but its just your favorite Roman pagan here. It seemed to me when I was a Christian that God was viewed in a rather anthropomorphic fashion by all of those around me. It seems to be the prevailing notion at least.
Legionary wrote: <<<>>> God <<<>>> viewed in a rather anthropomorphic fashion <<<>>> seems to be the prevailing notion at least.
Not by any orthodox Christian communion in the history of the world. Michelangelo was an artist. Not a theologian. You are yet another self described “ex” Christian who isn’t.
God=Him? Jesus was born a man? The vast majority of Christians I have ever discussed religion with honestly believe God to not only possess a corporal form, but one that is masculine. The vast majority doesn’t mean all however.
I was a Christian, born and bred. Now I’m not. I renounced my faith, its really not that difficult to comprehend.
Fine. The anthropomorphic language of scripture is another topic. Maybe we’ll get into it sometime.
Aren’t you a Biblical literalist? You still haven’t answered why its impossible for a former Christian such as myself to now be a Deist.

Well said. Religion does nothing but infect minds.
