Atom Smasher Switched on Tomorrow

Damn that thing must be powerful.

All the electric here went off just when they turned it on.

I will now blame this LHC for everything that goes wrong.

My garden gate broke today too. Damn scientists - now I need to go buy a new hinge.

Gordon Freeman spotted at the Cern Test chamber!!!

I don’t like the sound of that. I saw a movie about one of those things once. Things definitely turned out bad for those people.

Fuck that. Who are a handful of scientists to decide if this one machine is worth the lives of 6.5 billion people? If something would go wrong, (and I bet scientists NEVER make mistakes,) we wouldn’t get an “Oops,” or “Aw shucks, we’ll try it again tomorrow.” No, instead, we’d be left with nothingness. BECAUSE NO ONE WOULD BE ALIVE.

I could give a watery shit less about the benefits we’d get from the atom machine, because I for one am NOT okay with putting all of existence in the hands of some smug, power-happy narcissistic french scientists, and I’m sure that I’m not the only one.

Wait, they are french? Next thing you know they are going to come running to us for help when it all goes horribly wrong. Cheese eating surrender monkies…

I have this brilliant idea: instead of putting fate in the hands of the most knowledgeable, let’s allow the layperson choose. Oh wait, we already do that and we can’t even get that right.

Just because you’re paranoid about the end of the world, doesn’t mean applied science should come to a halt.

This is mostly true, but not nearly as relevant to everyday Americans as the proposed Internation Linear Collider – a “complementary” accelerator that will be primarily funded by the US. Keep in mind our tax dollars have already been going towards the Fermi Accelerator in Illinois – $350 million in 2008 – and that number simply can’t decrease with another facility in the fold.

Yeah, you’re right. We should probably also create super soldiers and do our best to develop new nuclear weapons and let the radical Islamists experiment with them.

What do you mean it’s not related - it’s all applied science!

i agree with everything you just said apart from the islamists… should give them to us irish!

You got a lot of gold stars in school, didn’t you?

Did you just equate all applied science to giving nukes to “radical Islamists”? Cause that may be the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

If they don’t smash those atoms, then the terrorists will win…

First of all, who are you insulting? I used an example, albeit a bad one, but if you’re insinuating that I’m of low-intelligence or some war-bound southerner, your snide remark means nothing to me; it’s reasons like you I tend to avoid politics. Crazy, I don’t remember ever tying in caps, using poor grammar, or saying the word “terrorists” in any of my posts. The Islam wasn’t a great example, but you seem to be dodging answering the point I made. Perhaps we can get back to debating (without whatever vomit you produced in your post) like men as to how endangering our existence is justified by science just for science’s sake?

do you walk outside?

your endangering your existence by doing that…
