No. I’m with Tom Nagel. Killing is different than letting die. Naive utilitarianism leaves you with some pretty ugly outcomes.
No way. If they’re just tied to the train, they should all be fine anyway. It’s not like they’re on the tracks right?
If they were tied to the tracks, I dont know. I’d feel compelled to flick the switch, then leave the scene as fast as possible safe in the knowledge that I saved 4 lives, and the other was unavoidable making my choice unregrettable. I didnt choose who lived and died, I didnt play god, I just acted in best interest.
I forgot what those types of questions were. We did them in English one year and that is the one I got. I decided to flip the switch as to save 5 people over the one. But I didn’t look at it as killing.
There are other questions like that but I can’t think of any more. They are really good and really make you think on what you would do. Either or the outcome is not desired.
Fuzzy, i would have to go with saving 5 people over the one, irregardless of iq and ecetera.
What famous or infamous(depending on how you look at it) celebrity do you share a birthday with? If you want to find out here is a link you can use. When i was prompted to check apparently i share my bday with a number of porn stars, rappers.

knowing nothing about either group of people, why they’re tied to the train or why i have the power to decide who lives and who dies, i’ll go utilitarian (not my usual m.o.) and flip the switch.

The needs of the many out-weigh the needs of the few. Enough said.

That’s strange, because you have the same prominent separation between upper and lower pecs, lol.

Why not just untie the people? Or, if that’s not possible, how about causing the train to derail?
