Not castoli1971 then.

I have literally typed my responses in this thread with my foot to see how far he would go. He has been losing a debate to a foot.

This surprises no one on this forum.

Exactly the right question to ask. We need to explore the ragdoll phenomenon and how it intersects with race and g÷nder. There may be some underserved populatio,s that aren’t being ragdolled equitably by a substantial margin.

And a quick reminder to the thread that Jimmy Dore is a standup comedian turned monetized conspiracy theorist podcaster. Capitalism, baby.

So what conspiracy are you talking about? I gotta an idea, you can clearly see the posters name(guy who posted tweet). Why don’t you ask him why he is making up these stories?

Milton Friedman was also in favor of mass illegal immigration.

Look, for example, at the obvious, immediate, practical example of illegal Mexican immigration. Now, that Mexican immigration, over the border, is a good thing. It’s a good thing for the illegal immigrants. It’s a good thing for the United States. It’s a good thing for the citizens of the country. But, it’s only good so long as it’s illegal.
M.F.

He was also VERY clear about the context of that statement. He is getting proven more and more correct here in Maine.

“I’ve always been amused by a kind of a paradox. Suppose you go around and ask people: ‘The United States before 1914, as you know, had completely free immigration. Anybody could get in a boat and come to these shores and if landed at Ellis Island he was an immigrant. Was that a good thing or a bad thing?’

You will find that hardly a soul who will say that it was a bad thing. Almost everybody will say it was a good thing. ‘But what about today? Do you think we should have free immigration?’ ‘Oh, no,’ they’ll say, ‘We couldn’t possibly have free immigration today. Why, that would flood us with immigrants from India, and God knows where. We’d be driven down to a bare subsistence level.’

What’s the difference? How can people be so inconsistent? Why is it that free immigration was a good thing before 1914 and free immigration is a bad thing today? Well, there is a sense in which that answer is right. There’s a sense in which free immigration, in the same sense as we had it before 1914 is not possible today. Why not?

Because it is one thing to have free immigration to jobs. It is another thing to have free immigration to welfare. And you cannot have both. If you have a welfare state, if you have a state in which every resident is promises a certain minimal level of income, or a minimum level of subsistence, regardless of whether he works or not, produces it or not. Then it really is an impossible thing.”

He could also get sent back if deemed undesirable for several different reasons. Although I agree with the spirit of your post.

That headline sounded bad, so I actually read the article and scrolled through the comments to read some of the (hopefully) fact based, non-political ones, also did some googling to see what the “truth” might be.

Imagine that.

Starlink terminals were donated to public help sites, and there was difficulty getting access for the helicopters flying them in; which obviously means the average person expecting a terminal to magically appear in their home is living in lala land; if you already have a terminal, it’s 30 days free, just like it says.

This was on Reddit, so whatever, but it seems legit:

Public Starlink Sites - Ashe and Avery County

  • UPDATE 1 Reformatted post to increase legibility.

The following additional public Starlink sites are live:

Yancey County:

  • Burnsville Town Square
  • Burnsville Farmers Market
  • All Yancey County FDs (the ones that still exist…many were swamped or completely destroyed).

Avery County:

  • Banner Elk FD
  • All Blowing Rock FD stations
  • Banner Elk Town Hall
  • Lees-McRae College South Campus

Ashe County:

  • Todd Volunteer Fire Department
  • Fleetwood Fire Department (off 221)
  • Creston FD
  • Glendale Springs FD
  • New River FD
  • Pond Mountain FD
  • Warrensville FD
  • Lansing FD
  • Ashe County Family Center

I’m pushing to get an ArcGIS map of all public sites in WNC created, will update this post if that comes to fruition.

Many more Starlinks have been delivered, primarily to NC DOT as they are shifting focus to clear and rebuild the roads up to the hollers off the main roads.

As per guidance from North Carolina Emergency Management - PLEASE work with them or County EM before coming up here to help - there are few primary roads that are clear and they are down to one lane in many places while road/utility repairs are still underway - traffic through Boone is quite heavy.

I would expect nothing more. In fact, I’d expect nothing. Because everything after that is just great.

Thats pretty nice. :+1:

Give people an inch, and they expect a yard.

Variations of that is a cliche for a reason.

That, and people hear what they want to. A bunch of people hear “Elon is sending free starlink.” and interpret that as “I’m getting free starlink!”.

No! A billionaire trying to make money from a disaster?

Was he very clear on the only concern of a business is to maximize shareholder profits?

He is very clear on most of what he said and wrote.
