Arguements for Defending Meat-Eating

I quit arguing this one a while ago. Like a lot of arguments, people aren’t going in with enough of an open mind that even if you presented a well researched, scientifically supported point of view they’re still going to tell you that you’re wrong. So even when you ask about where the leather for their belt/shoes/wallet/etc. came from (never mind what 6 year old in a 3rd world country made it) you will still most likely be wrong. I’ve had people tell me how wrong and unethical it is to hunt while they cook a steak from Costco.

That’s where I really like jtrinsey’s approach. That and asking vegans to explain why if we are not meant to eat meat why god made animals so damn tasty. (Can’t remember who said that one originally).

EDIT: kanew beat me to it.

Agree with most of the previous posts.

“The Ominvore’s Dilemma” and “Real Food:What to Eat and Why” are great resources that would make any ‘open minded’ vegan/vege want to eat meat. Even recommends sources for sustainable, grass fed, organic meats. Which are very tasty IMHO.

Mass produced meats/farms are bad (for me, the animal and environment) and with other local options available there’s no reason to support them. Even if eating vege/vegan was the way to go (and in no way do I believe that) mass produced veges aren’t healthy - just do some simple research on how corporate farms treat their soil/crops.

The best argument against vegetarianism is personal health – sufficient protein intake.
But really, if they’re trying to convert you, tell them that it isn’t respectful to nag. Live and let live.

I view vegetarians like I view gays! I don’t judge them, and I accept the fact that different people like different things. But I usually shake my head when someone tells me that they are either and say, “you have no idea what you’re fking missing out on”.

Most gay vegetarians still like meat in the can.

lol

lmao… Well played sir

I feel bad for all those insects that die by spraying the fucking vegetable crops with insecticides.

Oh, but an insect’s life doesn’t rate in the eyes of the vegetarian.
It’s a subjective judgement based on a person’s idea of what has value, even the concept of value is subjective. Does a vegetarian think a puppy needs saving? How about a centipede or a mosquito?

Their assesment of what has value is not based on any kind of logic or science, it’s primarily an emotional assesment based on “cuteness”.

They’ve more than likely watched a lot of Disney movies as a kid and have projected all of these human traits onto animals.

I’d just as soon take my cues from the lion - does a lion feel sad for an antelope it eats?

Life becomes a lot more enjoyable when you realize that you don’t have to justify your decisions.

Also, baby animals and cuter animals are delicious. You can’t argue it. It’s science.

Unfortunately healthy vegatarianism and veganism is good for the average sedentary american lifestyle. You just don’t need that much protein to sit down at work all day, take the elevator and escalator, follow people at the mall to get their parking spot, and sit on the couch.

However if you don’t live that lifestyle, then meat is very necessary, and more than healthy. In meat there are amino acids, minerals, fats, and vitamins that disolve in THOSE fats at the proper absorption ratios for digestion. If you don’t eat meat your body will not build properly or sufficiently to exceed in athletic and bodybuilding endeavors. As someone else said the body was meant to be ominvorous. Young children fed diets of strictly vegatarian are known to be unhealthy, and less athletic. If they do eat alot and get proteins from chips and other sources they’re usually overweight, and still less healthy then their counterparts.
Can a diet that makes children sick really be healthy?

You can get proteins and vitamins from other sources, but you have to jump through hoops with the vitamins and protein drinks and soy and everything else you eat. More than likely you killed a ton of animals and destroyed nutrients with all the processing you needed to turn soy into a burger anyway.

We did it for 2.5 million fucking years and it is responsible for humans’ very existence. If you want to see what would happen had we not adopted the carnivore strategy, take a look at chimps. Furry fuckers with small brains and dicks, and a washing machine gut to churn all those damn leaves all day. Some people are just dying to turn shit back on themselves.

I almost thought of starting to call vegans ‘chimps’, but quickly realized that it would be way to good for them.
Monkeys are fucking awesome. If I could have a life of doing nothing but swinging around tree-tops, I’d die a happy man/chimp.
Yes! Monkeys are awesome!

Sorry, nothing to add re: meat consumption, except that meat is delicious. Carry on.
Haha! Hilarious.

I choose the latter. Only because I spend my Saturday nights smelling Karamel’s butt.

You owe them no explination!

Industrial ag production has its pitfalls no matter if its a meat or a veggie. This includes industrial organic!

Kill it yourself and eat it!

that usually gets their nipples twisted cause normally, most veggies are tree-huggers as well.

That article indicates that the large scale of cattle farming contributes to global warming.

You know what they say, so I’ll expect the pics soon. Bonus points if you make it your avatar of you + shirt + eating meat.

.

Your family is turning to vegetarian for health or moral reasons? The first one is easier to shake the second not so much.

I don’t let anyone tell me how to eat unless
a. They have the body/physique/lifting numbers to back it up.
b. They genuinely care about my health (only my wife is truly in this category), everyone else I will just listen to, say “that’s interesting” and move on.

Don’t let anyone, especially a vegan tell you what to eat.

Timely nature of this post for me, I recently changed to eating a lean protein (meat) at every meal sitting and the only carbs I’m eating are from green vegetables. Nuts, whole eggs, cheese (little), post workout shake make up the rest of my diet. I feel full, not overeating at meals and performance has been strong at the gym.

Don’t bother arguing and trying to convince others. It’s not like politics where everybody gets stuck with the same shitty President. Just eat your meat and let others do what they want.

Then you get the vegan that argues how inhumanely they treat certain animals when they kill them for food. I see the key part of the word “inhumanely” is the word human in the middle. Many animals of the same species kill each other or hurt each other to live in the wild, there is no ETHICS within their own species. Why should I show some type of ethical behavior to a species that does not practice ethics within itself?

This always cracks me up.

When I go fishing, if I’m keeping a couple, I kill them quickly and put them in a lunchmate full of ice.

When some of the waterbirds catch a fish, they spike it with their beak, knock it off of rocks, some grab a trout in their talons and fly off, all while the things are still alive.

If any vegan “tree hugger” ever says this, they have obviously not been amongst the trees and forest that they love so much for very long. If they were, they would know that humans are probably the most gentle predators on earth.
