Anyone Taking Armour Thyroid? Feedback?

Armour thyroid has been a big help to me personally. I’ll have to find my blood work to show my levels. I’ve only been on it for 3 1/2 months now, on a relatively low dose, at 60 mg every day. I go back for more blood work in a few weeks. Thyroid medication will affect your hormones, and takes a while to balance out in your system. Give it time to work. I can’t think of any bad symptoms honestly. It’s been all good for me since I’ve started it.

@powellsixzero
What do you feel has changed since taking the meds? (like energy, mood, drive, etc)

I would say my mood is better. I used to be so tired all the time I could get crabby very easily. Now things that used to bother me don’t. I feel motivated to do things now that I had previously lost interest in. I have energy in the morning, all the way through my workout at the end of the day. Another thing I didn’t expect, was my ability to tolerate the heat again. I used to feel like death if I got too hot, or had to work outside. Kind of hard to avoid when you do air conditioning for a living. Now my body doesn’t overreact to the heat. I used to have the thermostat inside at 70 to stay comfortable, or to even sleep at night. The colder the better. Now I’m good at 73-74, and I actually use a blanket at night.

Levothryoxine or synthroid which is T4 only usually doesn’t do people much good. Most who switch to Armour or another natural T4/T3 combo med usually fare much better. Doctors are F’ing worthless with thyroids. Get online, search for Armour to buy over the net and get him going on it.

It’s not hard to self medicate for a thyroid.

I didn’t realize that they had started dosing it in mg’s. I’ve always dealt with it in grains. 1/2 grain is a good starting point. They sell it online from different places in different grain amounts. I had my ex up to 3 grains a day when she felt the best. Everyone is different so just keep going up until you feel the hyper and then back it off 1/2 grain or until that feeling goes away. You’ll find that you are top of the world at that point.

I hope the 30mg (1/2 grain) will get me up to higher levels than I currently have.

I’m
Wondering if I should do as dr says and take half in morning half at night OR just take the whole thing at night. It seems hard with the morning dose and coffee (breakfast). Any advice?

Half grain isn’t much. I would not take any thyroid meds at night. It’ll most likely keep you up. If anything take half dose in morning on empty stomach at least half hour before any food then again about 2-3pm on empty stomach or 2 hours after any food. Try that protocol and see how you do.

I don’t have the option to get Armour or T4/T3 combo where i live.

Can’t i just get T3 and T4 med separately and take from each at the same time of the day? Of course i wouldn’t know what mcg to start with for both of them.

If you have access to the internet you can get Armour. You’ll pay out of pocket but you can get it. Combining T3 and T4 meds to get proper ratios would be very difficult. I would not try that.

Can you PM me where to get it ? I suck at finding trustworthy sites and get scammed.
I live in Istanbul/Turkey btw.

This site does not have PM option and I cannot tell you where to get it online without a prescription or I’ll get banned. All I can say is Google is a wonderful place to start. Trust me though in that it can be found fairly easily. I did it for years with my ex.

Fair enough. One silly question though… Does it have to be the brand Armour? Or should i look for other brands? Is that a brand even? Or it just means desiccated thyroid?

I take 1.5 grains of armour at 8:30pm every night and don’t have any problems falling asleep. I don’t get jittery either. You think that means I need more?

Armour is the brand name. They are the best. There are other brand names that I don’t have on the top of my head. Just google Natural Dessicated Thyroid medications. Look up each brand and the ratios of T4 to T3. Stay away from stuff that isn’t a true medication. Lots of imposters. But if at all possible stay with Armour.

What are your blood results telling you? Have you posted them? That will tell you what you need. You don’t want to just throw darts at your thyroid with no blood results first.

First how do you feel?? Second what do blood tests show? If you have extra Armour and want to increase by 1/2 grain until you get hyper symptoms and then back off, that’s fine…but I’d want to see your blood results now before you do that to see what a “base line” is for 1.5 grains.

I didn’t want to hijack the thread by going into details but here is my post about my thyroids :

And some others here also advised me T3 only or T4 only med with those levels.

What are the ranges of the results. That will help. Also, you really need rT3 tested. If that’s over 15 and everything else is is fine then everything isn’t fine if that makes sense. High rT3 is essentially making a person Hypo. Looks like your body isn’t converting T4 to T3 very well. Thus a T3 med only would probably be more beneficial. But again, rT3 is just as important to know. Yet almost no doctors ever test for it.

@trifive - I don’t have any FT3, FT4 or reverse T3 labs on 1.5 grains. My Dr only tests TSH, which was 3.5 and is now .7.

My pre armour labs:
TSH - 3.53 uIU/ML (0.400 - 4.100)
T3 Total - 0.91 ng/ml (0.80 - 2.00)
T4 Total - 5.3 MCG/DL (4.5 - 11.7)
TRIIODOTHYRONINE, REVERSE - 14.3 ng/dl (9.0 - 27.0)

Guess I’ll have to get blood work done.

Honestly, I feel warmer than I used to in the colder weather and sweat easier than I used to… But aside from that, if there have been changes, they are subtle. My weight hasn’t changed since starting… Exercising 3-5 times a week and with a relatively clean-ish diet (some beers/occasionally eating kids leftover nuggets or Mac and cheese) I’m still carrying some abdominal/chest fat I’ve really never been able to shake no matter what… But not sure if that’s thyroid related ir what.

Sounds like I need more blood work. Thanks again for the info and sorry @roscoe88 for clogging up your thread.

Tested rt3 couple of months ago, it was 13 but i will get it tested again soon… I just started TRT 3 weeks ago and waiting for the 6th week before i start any thyroid med. Anyhow.. so this means i should try T3 med first? You can go ahead and reply about it to my thread as i think i just hijacked this thread

You absolutely need FT4, FT3 and rT3 results. TSH is the last parameter that matters. But, the fact that it has dropped is a good sign. TSH which most doctors go off is like trying to understand a books details with cliff’s notes. ORDER your Dr. to test those. He’ll fight you as he knows more than you. Where I live in TX we have Anylabnow testing places and I can go in and pay out of pocket for thyroid test and it’ll cost me 130 bucks. And I get what I want. Not sure if that’s available to you. If it is…go do it. And then based on your results self medicate and dump the doctor. He doesn’t give an F about you. I had to take control over my ex’s thyroid when our doctor told her he doesn’t treat how she feels, they treat blood work (meaning TSH).

I just saw your results. T4 and T3 are low. But again we need the FT4 and FT3. rT3 is below 15 which is good. I’d get current tests and then find Armour online and do what I mentioned posts above and titrate up until you get hyper symptoms then back it off a bit. Then get labs done again and see where you sit and feel.
