I just bought this game for my son to stop the nagging and I find it somewhat confusing…
He is playing a creative mod or something?
He built himself a house, but is too scared to go outside because he thinks the creepers will get him. Can he even get hurt in the creative world? What else can he do for fun once he’s built himself a house? I am not used to him playing games that I don’t totally kick ass at…
Attached is a video walkthrough of his house for no apparent reason.
Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

You’re invincible in creative mode.
There is no objective really. If you play on survival mode you can set progression goals of getting diamond armor and tools and stuff without dieing. It’s basically just like virtual legos, which I find amazing. You should play it with him if you have 2 computers or a laptop or something. It’s a lot more fun when you’re playing with people. Also it’s fun if you get into Tekkit or Volts or Feed the Beast and get a server going, but that is pretty involved to set up.

He cant get hurt in creative mode but there is a reason you immediately start digging in the normal one.
Creepers are exploding rat bastards that sneek up on you.
Why don’t you ever dig straight down? He told me this morning he built a basement, I wonder if he dug straight down to do that.
He also told me last night he heard a zombie outside of his house and then he started hyperventilaiting, HAHAH, maybe it was just a while boar or something?
Is it fairly easy to figure out how to do 2 player? If I just buy it under my account we will be in the same world or something?
UMM lastly, he tried to build a chair making a chair shape out of wool and it didn’t work, but he told me his hero on youtube did the same thing and it worked. His home has no place to sit, and that makes me sad.

Unfortunately it kinda isn’t easy; but you can definitely do it. You have to download the free server; run the server.exe, make sure you are forwarding the proper ports on your router, and then he can get on with your local ip and :25565 after it. Setting up multiplayer on indie games is often pretty hands on.

No such thing as chairs or sitting in the current version. There are mods for it; possible his youtube pal had one. (there are literal fuck tons of mods)
My 13 year old son plays the shit out of MineCraft. Makes me want to slap him in the back of his head. If you can’t answer the questions “How do you win?” or “How do you know it’s over?”, then it isn’t a game I want to be a part of.

^ This.
I mean, even in Oregon Trail you got to hunt for deer…

Maybe he is destined to be an engineer.
Plus you are putting limits on game playing. How is he ever going to reach his potential?

Maybe a fascination with engineering? Make that kid do lots of maths.
Let’s be honest, this game is much more practical than COD or most games for that matter.
EDIT: I played with legos for endless hours as a kid and I became an engineer. There are a lot more possibilities in MineCraft (from what I’ve seen, never played it).

He put some kind of lock contraption on the door to protect himself! Whatta smartie![/quote]
I noticed he had an iron door, which means he at least knows a bit about the power system they programmed in.
You can do some pretty crazy shit. I’ve got a few good ones if I do say so myself. Some people go buck wild though. You can actually build simple computers inside the game with redstone. The circuitry some of these people come up with is amazing.
