I use a refurbed MacBook I bought from the Apple Store for like $1000. Pentium chipset, so I have Bootcamp, and XP on it. Best money I ever spent.
I’m replacing the office computers, and I am seriously considering going mac there as well.
Thanks, RJ. I might have to give the refurbs a look, then. God, I wish I could use a Mac at my current job. They are so much more efficient it is unbelievable. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wished I could use Spotlight to find an obscure file while at work.
I looked up the Mac Book Air and it is getting pretty negative reviews.
I was creaming my pants to get the Air when it first came out, but once you start looking at it, it’s not really worth the 1700 bucks. No optical drive, shitty battery life, and the keyboard issues.
But if the price comes down - I’m probably going to buy one anyway just because of the cool factor.

Agreed as far as the Air goes. No optical and bad battery is bad enough, but I can’t use anything that fragile.
I’m a guy who grew up working on trucks and tractors, so anything with parts small enough to make me turn on a light and use my fingertips pisses me off. I’ve dropped my MacBook fullbore on the floor several times and it works just fine. I also haul it around in a backpack with a couple enormous textbooks on my bike.
I have noticed a couple very small cracks on the case, and I don’t think the fit is very good where the battery connects, but I regard these as cosmetic issues, and totally understandable for how much abuse I’ve given it.
The only complaint I have that might be related to it being a refurb is that the “A” key sticks, which leads me to make a lot of typos, but I’ve had it four months and it hasn’t really impeded my work output.
