the ninja sounds like the way to go… and damn i’m liking the pricing on the 250 cc. I sold my old truck and i got about 7000 or so for the bike and a new car.

Im gonna go with a used ninja 250 for sure

Please listen to my advice! My first bike I purchased was a 03 Yamaha R6. I was so scared when I left the dealership I swear I left a hand print on my grips. After 2 years of riding I got really used to it, I was always riding around the 12k rpm range. But I rode my brothers 02 954.

I realized I made a huge mistake in buying a 600 and not a liter bike. Needless to say I sold the R6 and bought an R1. If you are looking for a sportbike a Suzuki GSXR 750 is the bike to buy. Ask anyone who rides and Im sure theyll say im right. The HP to weight ratio is perfect.

No need to ride in high R’s all the time, and awsome power! As far as “Its too much bike” Its all about throttle control.

Ill also recomend reading the book “Twist Of the Wrist” by Keith Code, before you purchase a bike. Itll explain the physics behind riding and even explain the difference between cruisers and sportbikes. Good luck with your decision. [/quote]

Wow.

I also had a 2003 Yamaha R6 and would not recommend most newbies buy a liter bike as their first bike. I have a 2006 CBR 1000RR right now and this bike gets up so quickly that there is no way a beginner should be on it trying to get comfortable riding. You are just asking for an injury.

For the record, there are so many bikes being sold around here, on any given day, half of the street is loaded with them if it’s not raining. I’ve known a lot of people that got the largest bike they could as their first…and many of them dropped it or destroyed the bike. That is what happens when you don’t learn control before you try to handle as much power as possible.

thats fucking ridiculous advice. you forgot to tell him to try an 80mph wheelie on his first run while not wearing a lid.

I’ve got a Cruiser and love it. It’s a VStar 650 and its my 2nd bike. I started off small with a smaller Honda and after a couple of years I want something bigger, but I agree about starting small. I think this 650 is a perfect beginner bike. I don’t care for sports bike. Its just not me, but an old grizzled long hair 60’s guy that is a mechanic in a bike shop, said he switched to one and it was the most comfortable bike he’s ever had. I can’t picture this guy on one, but hey, roll on!

My main point was if you are going to purchase a bike of any kind, read “Twist of the Wrist” The book goes into detail about riding within your limits and awareness. I guess I wasnt too clear.

Further more at least for myself I was petrified of riding fast to begin with, so having that kind of power wasnt an issue. Another point, the inital investment between the 600 and 750 is close. But with the 750 you get more cc/dollar and its more forgiving than 1k class.

No i would not tell him to do that, first he needs to be drunk during rushhour to pull that kinda stunt.

The Honda looked better that year in my opinion and when I drove it, the way it turns is a huge improvement over my Yamaha. To be fair, I never test rode the 2006 R1. I still actually liked the seating of my R6 a little better (more comfortable for long rides), but the CBR gets up like nothing else.

gets up as in speed, or as in wheelie. im buying a new bike around the 1st of july. there was no doubt in my mind that i was going for about a 10 year old harley, hopefully already rigid in the rear, or id modify it down the road a bit.

then while at the dealership getting some work done on my bike, i saw/sat on the '07 cbr600rr…wow. first sport bike id ever sat on that was completely comfortable to me. and my feet actually were comfortably on the ground.

i must admit though, it makes me a bit nervous. my friend and i actually used ask jeeves or something like that to look up how to do a wheelie, specifically because i didnt want to be doing them.

anyway, i am still on the fence. i suppose its a good thing this house i am selling hasnt sold yet, b/c the commission is buying the bike, whichever one i decide to go with.
