Stick to blowing Obama, you were much better at that than critical analysis and looking through the cover story.

You would be a great journalist Nathan, never questioning authority and accepting every word politicians say.

Did you hear about Obama’s red line ? Assad crossed it, and did nothing.

  2. Ph.d from Prinction

  3. Commander of U.S. military forces in the Middle East.

  4. Director of the CIA.

  5. Over 45 medals and decorations

Yep, seems like a real loser to me…

I saw this. It actually made me cry thinking about that young girl that was sold as a slave and died the first night. Poor people will do anything to make a dollar. At least the Yemini are talking about making it a crime.

Because why not.

This little girl is awesome. She is going to be a tiger when she grows up…if she grows up.

I wish I could adopt her, so they don’t marry her off to some scumbag and she’s forced to follow through on her threats.

If Islam’s founder Mohammed married a Child, can one blame these pervs over there wanting to
follow the ways of their long gone dead leader?..Oh, and covert her to Christianity Varq if you adopt her, and teach her
that Christ’s message was the polar opposite of what the founder of her religion actually practiced.

Actually, since you mention Aisha, this little girl reminds me of how I envision Aisha as having been. Fiery, outspoken, and brazen, Aisha even told the Prophet off more than once. Even implied that Muhammad was “interpreting” his revelations from God to suit his personal sexual agenda. How many religions do you know of that are this candid?

He may have taken advantage of her when she was nine (and who knows for sure? I guess if Methuselah was literally 900, then Aisha was literally nine), but she had him wrapped around her finger until the day he died. Muslims pray facing Mecca. Muhammad prayed facing Aisha (not to say he literally worshipped her, she was on a bed between him and Mecca).

Convert this little girl to Christianity? Nah. All I’d like to do is convert her into someone who isn’t forced into a marriage that she would rather die than go through with. She can do that and still be Muslim, just not that easily in Yemen.

Women are property in Muslim Countries and Yemen is one of the worst. Christ tried to bring women up in their standing in the world. Who was the first to actually see Christ risen, and it is written down. A woman’s word was nothing in the days of Christ.

I am hoping Islam is going through a secularization just like Christianity during the Reformation. The people and especially the women are starting to speak out. The internet allows us to see what is going on.

My heart goes out for all the women and especially the innocent girls in Muslim countries this is happening too. It is basically legalized human trafficking.

Looks like the Republicans are growing some balls. Lets see how far they are willing to take it. I am 100% behind them.

I agree, but if it gets to sequestration, several our large government contracts are automatically cut.

So I would like to see something worked out before the shutdown.

Well, that’s kind of an oversimplification.

Women have been considered property in a lot of countries that are predominantly Muslim, but that’s an Arab thing, not a Muslim thing. It’s counterintuitive, but Islam actually gave women a lot more rights than they had previously had in Arabia and India and the Malay Archipelago.

In Sumatra, where I lived for some time, the most Islamic island in the largest Muslim country in the world by population (Indonesia), the dominant society is the Minangkabau, which is fiercely Muslim, but also matriarchal: the women own everything, all inheritance passes to the daughters, and the men are the ones who have to move into their mother-in-law’s houses.

Even in the patriarchal Arab societies in the Gulf States, women’s rights are guaranteed not only in Sharia but also in the national constitutions. Emerati women are judges, diplomats, members of parliament, and active duty personnel in the military, and they constitute over half of the workforce. Definitely not property. Perhaps not as “liberated” (read “entitled”) as their Christian sisters in America, but then, nobody is. Let’s just say that their position in society is no worse than the role prescribed for women by the Apostle Paul, and probably a lot better.

Talk to Muslim women in America and ask them if they feel like property under their religion. They will laugh at you. They hold the purse strings and rule their homes, and they will tell you that they are much happier wearing hijab and being regarded as women than they would be dressed like “Christian” women and regarded as whores. Muslim girls in America do not, as a rule, want to emulate Britney Spears and Lady Gaga.

It is. Definitely. Turkey, the seat of the old Khalifate, was probably the first country to secularize, and that’s the model. There will always be enormous friction between the fundamentalist and the modernists, just like there has been in Christianity and Judaism.

The Internet allows us to see some things, but only if we look for them. If all we want to see is extremists with suicide vests shouting Allahu akbar, or little girls forced into marriages with goaty old men, then that’s all we’ll see. Just like if all some people are interested in is altar boys getting molested by priests, pro-life Christians shooting abortion doctors, and bigoted church groups protesting military funerals, that’s all they’ll see about Christianity. In both cases, it’s a skewed and inaccurate view.

Mine too. And to the little girls in Hindu societies in India and Sri Lanka, and little girls in Buddhist societies in Thailand and Cambodia, and to little girls in Christian societies in Sub-Saharan Africa and Eastern Europe.

People are assholes everywhere, in spite of their religion, not necessarily because of it.
