Frikandel Speciaal and fries with mayonaise. I don’t understand what Americans seem to have against french fries with mayo but it’s delicious, especially when high. Maybe American mayo is just disgusting.

Agreed, minus of course the boat ride (i get seriously claustrophobic) and of course, like I said, watch out for bikers and trams.

I don’t know, I found dutch food to be a bit heavy - but damn, they do love their mayo over there. They also have this stuff called haugenslaak (phonetics) which are basically chocolate shavings and/or sprinkles that you eat on toast…oh yum.

I just feel the need to share some post cards (not sure if you can read them) I sent a friend while I was in Amsterdam (She recently found them and sent them back to me). Mind you I was 22 and mildly retarded. But that was good times. Sadly, there’s many more of these post cards (?!?!) and goobledegocks=guilders.

Sheep Incident…Jail…What happened?

I am very particular, so here is the list of places that I have compiled so far per your suggestions. Feel free to add or delete any.

Restaurants: Supperclub, Nomads, Le Pecheur,

Clubs: Club 11, Rain.

Museums/Sights: Van Gogh, Rembrant, Vondel Park, Rijksmuseum,

Shops/Cafes: Grey Area, Bulldog

Red Light District: Pink Elephant,

Squares: Nieuwmarkt, Damsquare, Rembrandtsquare, Leidseplein

Also, is it legal to smoke weed anywhere there, or just in shops?

…actually, it’s not legal to smoke joints with tobacco in shops anymore. Nice, eh? So you can smoke tobacco-free joints, or use a bong, but noooo cigarettes. If with anywhere you mean inside restaurants/bars or clubs? No, nowhere unless specifically stated, but few places allow it. Out on the street is no problem…

Sheep Incident…Jail…What happened?[/quote]

Ha! Nah, there was no sheep incident, I’m as deviant as a box of kittens.

Westcoast, I’m sure you can smoke outside, but I’d err on the side of caution. Smoke in a coffee shop then take your excursion.

Sensation White happens in Amsterdam.
Well all over the world really…but that would be a really good place to hit it up.
It is the number 1 music event , guys like laidback luke, armin van buuren, tiesto, sebastian ingrosso…and so on spin at it .
YouTube it if u got a few minutes… because words cant describe it…

So I looked into the whole smoking and walking around thing. Apparently it is frowned upon to smoke outside the shops as Mascherano alluded to, smoking in the shops and then walking is the norm.

It also turns out that I will be seeing the Dave Matthews Band play at the Heineken Music Hall while I am over there, which should be absolutely nuts. Feel like I got pretty lucky with that one.

Also, can anybody that has seen a “show” in the red light district fill me on which one would be the best? I am not going to go down the prostitution path, but I would be game to see one of the famous shows.

Ditto to everything in this thread.

Add the old Heineken brewery, the “experience” can be corny but if you’re into beer tours like myself, it’s a must.
Check out an AFC Ajax game if you have the opportunity. Watching a football match in Europe is unreal.

Most beautiful city I’ve ever been to. I got busted by an officer for smoking outside, could probably tell I was a foreigner so he told me to get rid of it and informed me that it wasn’t legal - nothing else.

edit: If you smoke in the shop and not at your place it is customary to buy a drink.

Honestly, the “shows” sucked. It was just 2 people doing a job. You pay 1-2euro (can’t remember- was very drunk) to sit in a booth and watch some lame, uninspired sex. I am pretty sure the chick was doing her nails or some shit the whole time.

Of the two restaurants I mentioned, if there’s one I wouldn’t miss, both for the food and just the whole old-Amsterdam experience, it’s the Silver Mirror http://www.desilverenspiegel.com/ .

But that’s just me.

Just got back. Did 6 countries in 10 days, it was epic. I will fill y’all in once I recover.

Everyone should travel as much as their finances allow, the world is an amazing place.

Boom. Can’t wait man.

Sooo, it’s been over ten days that must’ve been some trip if your still recovering. lol

It was, and I moved into a new apartment the day I returned. I promise I’ll post about the romp by the end of the week.
