Amino Acid Supplimentation Between Meals?

I read an article recently about a study published where one person took in 5 meals a day, the other 3 meals 3 shakes and the other person taking in 5 meals and supplimenting with amino acids between the meals. This person gained more muscle than the other 2 people. They all were at the same level of lifting and their diets and training were the same. Has anyone ever tried this and or what are your takes to this study. P.S. i read the study many times and saw that all the variables were the same for each person except the meals.
