Why do I need it? Because it’s awesome! And because I live on the top of a mountain and you really need a 4X4 to get there safely. I tow my boats. I tow trailers with excavation equipment for side jobs. I haul wood and stone for various projects I have at home. It’s working truck with some nice finishing touches to it. The only down sides are not fitting in parking garages, cant do the drive thru hardly anywhere, and tight parking areas - other than that it’s fucking awesome. Chick’s dig it too, always asking for a ride or to hear my system. LOL

That’s a really cool truck AngryChicken. How much has the 6 inch lift affected handling? I’ve been thinking of getting a lift for my 4x4, but it’s very narrow and has a short wheelbase and so I think I’d feel handling issues more than in a bigger vehicle. Do you take it offroad much?

My truck is fucking huge, so the 6" lift doesn’t affect it negatively at all with the handling. I take it “off road” occasionally in my area just dickin’ around trying to find a good spot to hunt, fish or camp. I’m not a serious “I’m gonna take my truck and drive it thru 4 feet of mud” person. I live in the mountains with very steep, challenging, poorly maintained, gravel roads and it does just fine there. I use my 4WD every day.
Not sure I’d go with a 6" lift on something small and narrow (not sure exactly what you have). I might go with a 3" lift and stay on the safe side. Unless, of course, you just want to get stupid ridiculously tall with it. But then you have more of a “toy”, not a truck. My .02…
Yup, if I were to lift it I wouldn’t go nearly that tall. 3in would be good. But I probably won’t lift it at all.
Just a quick update on this thread. The 2014 Toyota Tundra I purchased brand-new has been mechanically flawless through 120,000 miles. All recommended maintenance has been done. The Tundra with a 5.7 V8 in a 4x4 Double-Cab has been worth every penny of the $31,500.00 I paid in 2014. I will probably never sell it.
I’m extremely suspicious of the new Toyota Tundra V-6 engine. I hope they prove me wrong and they probably will, but it will be a long time before I retire my V8.
I drive a Silverado Trail Boss and love it. I’ve typically had trucks as they are actually pretty useful. I most recently drove a BMW sedan. Sport and various other creature comfort packages. It was super fun to drive but couldn’t do anything else.
With the truck I can get around the ranch easily, move feeders, retrieve deer et cetera.
It has more than enough power for light towing duty, and I added the tow package for extra towing cheats. I pull a boat and sometime hay or other equipment at the ranch again.
I can buy all my spring landscaping bullshit in one trip and I don’t have to plan a block of time around rental availability.
It’s easy to help friends buy a smoker or something and get free beer and bbq in exchange.
I also enjoy the command of the road trucks give, and four wheel drive (not to be confused with all wheel drive) is nice in certain scenarios.
They’re very utilitarian, and the crew cab space on half tons and bigger is very spacious. In most cases you can flip the back seats up and give your dogs tons of room to lay around on the way to the ranch/beach/river or whatever.
Regarding the Trail Boss itself, I don’t have any complaints except for the Rancho shocks. Not terrible but they could be better, though I realize they wanted GMC to have an edge with the AT4.
It handles surprisingly well, especially if you swap the Ranchos with Bilstien. Not like a sport tuned Beamer, but better than some sedans for sure. And thanks to the tow package it has heavy duty brakes, which I also replaced with the same size but ceramic. Stops on a dime. I did put slightly bigger tires on. Nothing to need spacers or more lift, just big enough to fill the wheel well. Out of the factory they look like they skip leg day imo. Especially on 18’s, which I prefer for more tire.
And I love the V8 growl through Borla.
