Accidentally Downloaded Child Porn

Yes, we have reached a tipping point in this country. It’s out of hand.

who downloads porn anymore? There’s no need to.
That’s a vaguely worded comment, so I’m not sure what you are getting at. If you are looking at an image or video on your computer, you have either downloaded it, or you are viewing it from a local copy on your hard disk or DVD.

If you are asking why someone would save a porn image on their hard drive, note that until recently you didn’t really have a choice in the matter. Most web browsers automatically cache all content on the hard drive before displaying it. The latest version of most browsers now include some kind of “private browsing” option that will automatically erase the disk cache when you are done, but earlier versions did not have such a feature.

To make matters worse, they often stored the disk cache in custom binary encoded files in hidden directories, making it difficult for a user to erase the cache manually.

Streaming isn’t (generally) viewed as downloading. Even though, technically it is.

Yes, definitely stay away from limewire unless you like viruses and kiddie porn.
Anyhow, you if you do find yourself you need a scrubber that thoroughly over strikes. Most deletes just remove tags, the space is seen as free and can be over written, but until it is, it is accessible.

This is why I stopped using limewire. When your 13 and still don’t know that most pron is free, it seems like a great source for tits though…

I thought it was pretty clear he meant intentionally deciding to download porn, not whatever the hell it is that goes on behind-the-scenes in your browser when you browse the Internet (which most people have no clue about).

Limewire = downloading. Torrents = downloading. Right click + save as = downloading. Computer geek jargon for shit our computers do without us knowing when we surf teh interwebz does not equal ‘downloading’ to the majority of people.

So basically talking to people under the age of consent period is illegal? That means if I play any online games I better only join 18+ guilds/clans etc lest I can be arrested?
It does not appear to be quite that drastic, from the content of the article. You did read the article, right?

He said the law “makes it a crime to communicate by computer with underage children or adolescents for the purpose of facilitating the commission of the offences.”

But he said the word “facilitating” could be interpreted to mean anything that would make it easier or more probable for a young person to be taken advantage of.

“For the purpose of facilitating” is the operative phrase.

Moreover, it appears you have to know that the person with which you are communicating is underage. As in, the law wants to make sure that if you figure out the person is underage, you lock it up.

Tough rule? Certainly. It is certainly overinclusive. But if we have to infringe on the “liberty” of the pimple-faced online role players who don’t know where to draw the line when knowingly talking to an underaged person - even if they only want the creepy satisfactoin of “flirting” - few people will lose any sleep over it.

Well, someone like Lixy will. We keep shutting down his social life.

The fact that he decided to download porn rather than stream it warrants a jail term.

I wish they would use the fbi man-power to find the real sickos out there.

EDIT: Well, now that I think about it, it’s probably just his side of the story. Good chance that he just doesn’t want to get branded as actually having done that stuff.
