Abraham Lincoln - The Civil War.

Cmon Jeff, don’t be such sulky bitch. It’s getting ridiculous.

Well, the good news is, you already know the language.

JeffR, how many terrorists have you met?

varq,

You and I both know that comparing me to lixy is about the worst insult you could have leveled. Think about it, I spend a considerable amount of time thinking about and planning for attacks from his friends. Terrorism is never far from my mind.

Therefore, I could insult you once a day for two years and I’d still be the wronged party.

All in all, I’ve been kind to you.

Jeff, if you ever have a spare minute or two, you should re-read that old “Fear Wins” thread. I had almost forgotten what a classic thread that was, on so many levels. Anyway, it turns out that I wasn’t the one who compared you to Lixy, and in fact I protested that you and he are diametrical opposites.

Granted, my statement was not intended to be a compliment to you, but as far as comparing you to Lixy, my hands are clean.

It may surprise you to hear me say that I agree with this.

Doesn’t surprise me in the least. You are a reasonable fellow, after all.

However, I have more faith in our system than you apparently do. I believe we need to understand our enemy.

Don’t bother reasoning with the man, or attempting to bring him around to even considering other points of view. He’s as cravenly partisan, and as irrationally scared of terrorism, as anyone I’ve had the pleasure of not meeting.

Ha. Cold comfort. I struggled through Arabic and Farsi, too, and lemme tell you, thats no picnic. My Korean and Chinese are practically non-existent, so yeah, English-speaking enemies would be almost welcome.

Baltimore has the highest homicide rate of any city in the United States. So that’s probably a pretty safe assumption, Sloth.

Yeah, well, maybe, and maybe not. Jeff used to irritate me sometimes, but I’ve come to understand him a bit better lately. If he is actually what he purports to be, then his fear of terrorism is perfectly rational from his standpoint.

I’m predicting, however, that even he will begin to distrust the system as this war progresses, particularly if the elections don’t go as he hopes. At the very least, I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I missed it. What does he purport to be?

Unless I seriously miss my guess, I believe that Jeff is connected with the NSA.

And what has led you to such a conclusion? Poseurs are many and proliferate in today’s America.

My opinion of Jeffy’s identity? I believe he is a Republican troll. He consistently evades offers of mature human consideration. Consideration of? Why, usually of some preposterous stance he espoused moments before. He’s silly at best, ridiculous most of the time.

The Barrister once claimed to be an NSA agent assigned to this forum. lol

We’ll never know, because Jeff will never confirm nor deny, one way or the other. However, when I see a bird that walks like a duck and swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, I call that bird a duck.

I can’t speak for the way Jeff walks and swims, but he sure quacks like a Fed.

With the “quacking”, that he does. I believe he hails from Maryland, by his account. That for me is about all that accounts for his “Fed-ness”: simple proximity to DC.

He is quite comfortable in his chosen role of Republican partisan.

He seems to take literal pleasure in diverting potentiation of human interaction: that could be his commentary on his history of inter-gender interaction, lolz away. lolz I say!

As always…an amazing AND “spirited” discussion, guys…

I salute you.

The more I look at the early leaders of our Republic, AND of those leaders who got us through pivotal moments in our history, a few characteristics seem to come through:

  1. A keen sense of the importance of individual freedoms and liberties.

  2. A keen sense of the amazing potential that a Republic that respected individual freedoms had.

  3. A divided Republic is a MUCH weaker one AND

  4. There are certain things that are “right” and just…and certain things that are “wrong” and unjust.

Lincoln understood that a Republic divided and one that enslaved a major portion of its population was one that not only was going to be weaker…but it would eventually crumble because slavery simply was “wrong”.

So I don’t think that Lincoln thought “either/or”…he cared about the future of the Republic AND felt that slavery would eventually destroy the very soul of the Nation.
