For Chads abbh program do I use a slow tempo or a fast one?
Chad is no fan of slow tempos. Here’s a snippet from an as-yet-unpublished interview I did with him:
CW: I usually just use two tempo cues with my clients: explosive and “normal”. I don’t even use a cue for slow. I’m just not big on slow negative training or any slow training in general. I’m seeking performance. You don’t lift a load slow; you lift it fast and explosively. That trains the nervous system to fire very quickly and it taps into those high threshold fibers.
We’re running an article of his Friday where he writes about this too.
Any tempo near the 201 range is fine. But, all in all, don’t worry about it. Just control the movement and try to lift the concentric portion explosively.
