No other meds…I rarely take anything even when feeling ill. No OTC, rec drugs, or other scripts. I do take a joint compound, vitamins, and BCAA’s. Looked everywhere on my tests for sex binding tests…None on there.
TSH has been in normal range since getting on Armour (8 years), so curious why you think I need to be on something different?
BTW- I started supplementing with calcium three days ago. 1200 the first day, no change…8 times in the can, still diarrhea. Second day took 1200 mid morning and 1200 with dinner. Amazing results… Not solid, but slowed down my need to go from 6/8 to 2. Third day, same as previous, 1200mg twice during the day. Again, only twice to the bathroom. I almost feel like a free man! Still not solid, but diarrhea was reduced to almost an actual shape. Don’t wanna risk getting a stone, so this morning I am backing off 1200mg twice, and moving to 600mg twice. I am thrilled with the results so far. My wife is an organic junkie, and an ICU nurse…She was also very happy.
Given all your tests, it seems your chronic diarrhea is from some form of a malabsorption issue which could be a B 12 or Iron deficiency. Have you ever had those tested – low B 12 is common in people with low thyroid.
Bro check out this post. Kind of confirms my suspicion. I think your long term thyroid armor is causing your liver to produce a lot of SHBG which may explain the elevated liver values and what I bet will show high SHBG causing your low Free T and associated symptoms:
Yes sir…Iron is always really high. Sometimes when I was donating blood had to drink tea for a week prior to get my iron down so I could give. Not sure about B12, but I’ll check.
Good article, I’ll have to spend some time going through it tonight. I really don’t think my thyroid meds are causing the low T side effects though. I started thyroid meds at the same time that I started TRT. Free T was in the toilet, and TSH was really high on my first blood tests back in '08. Had several tests back to back (30 days apart), and all roads lead to the same path. I’m definitely going to have my endocrinologist run a full blown panel in March… Especially since I have already lowered my T and AI. Really appreciate all the good conversation. Hormones are a tricky web…One thing may affect three others at any one time.
OK…Day five or six on calcium supplement. 600mg twice daily doesn’t cut it, so went back to 1200mg twice daily. No actual hard stools yet, but definitely slows down my gut.
I’ll just chime in with you say you eat lots of oats, they can be very hard to digest and had a period where if I ate them in the morning for breakfast, I’d have vicious abdominal pain and on the toilet in 2 mins or I was in trouble. Always by 3:30pm that day. I’d go off them for a while to see if that changed anything.
Looks like in order to keep my gut calmed down, I need to consume 2400mg’per day… Split into two doses of course. Unfortunately, if you do a little research on calcium supplementation you will find a lot of information regarding negative affect on the body. Some articles from John Hopkins state heart related issues like calcium based plaque buildup in the artists, stroke, and very little positive effect over time.
You can also try a prescription called cholestyramine powder. Mix one scoop with a small glass of water. It helps a whole lot with IBS-D, can take in the morning or twice a day. I used to take that, but now I just take a 1200mg calcium in the morning. My doctor told me calcium is pretty safe to take since its one of most common elements in the human body. I’ve looked it up and 2500 is upper range of safe amount to supplement. IBS-D is crippling and I would rather risk kidney stones than deal with it daily. A gallon of milk contains like 4500mg of calcium, and I know a lot of people that can drink a gallon a day.
Gents,
Haven’t been on here is quite a while…over the last year have cut my TRT in half, and played with AI to the point that I have almost eliminated it. Tried lowering TRT (Cyp) to 100mg every 3 days but started to feel really bad, forgetful, sluggish, no drive after about two weeks…increased to current dosage of 150mg E3.5D, Thyroid has stayed at 2Gr ED, was taking .25 Arimidex with each dose of TRT, but the last two weeks completely eliminated it and have had wood every morning without any negative effects. Feeling much better. Blood work in coming around again in a couple months, so interested in results. Anything specific I should ask for in the panel?
How long do you suspect you had low e2?
Definitely get SHBG!
A while I suppose…E2 has been low as heck for years and Dr never said anything about it. Have been on try for 7 years and never had consistent mornings like I have the past three weeks.
That’s interesting. So you think that you have been keeping your e2 just below the sweet spot? Please follow up, it would be interesting to see where your e2 is now with your current protocol.
What was it last time you checked, and what was your protocol?
back after labs…so current protocol is .5 cc every 3 days, 1/2 tab 1mg Arimidex with dose, 2 Gr Armor Every day.
**Labs: Range:
:
**Total test - 1076 264 - 916 They lowered the range
Free test - 28.8 6.8 - 21.5
E2 - 29.3 7.6 - 42.6 would like it a little lower
SHBG - 24 20 - 60
DHT - 91 30 - 85
TSH - 1.7 .450 - 4.50
T3 - 4.7 2.0 - 4.4
T3 reverse - 18.7 9.2 - 24.1
T4 - 1.17 .82 - 1.77
Overall look pretty satisfied, though I am not feeling as good as I was on a half mil more T. Vitamin D is in the toilet 26.6 with a range of 30 - 100. Started a different D supp today, and hopefully the sun will start to shine in the next couple of weeks.
