Probably Israel…they got some bad bitches.
Well, there is a lot of dark curly haired women, sandy ground, looks like a beach possibly (swim trunks), plus there is a woman walking around with a rifle…good chance it is. Definitely not America because they are over dressed to be at an American beach and people would be tripping if a woman had a gun at a beach. And, of course it’s probably not any other ME country because she’d be wearing a burka.

The last 10 years, I’ve been all over America, and to be honest, I live in Canada and no longer plan to leave
America has gone from a country of fearless entrepreneurs and optimists to a bunch of shell-shocked, frightened people. Everything is about FEAR: Fear gay marriage is going to ruin society, fear of terrorism (how many people die of terrorism vs a common cold…), fear of Mexicans stealing jobs (wasn’t America made great by hard-luck immigrants?), fear of other Americans because they come from the ghetto, fear of the dissolution of government and the need to stockpile ammo and dry rations, fear of change in general, fear of being honest with oneself (no princess, you’re not special, get off the prozac).
I love visiting the states and stimulating the economy. But damn, I’m so happy every single time I return to Canada. Say what you want about socialism, I’d rather live in a country where people live and let you be as long as you don’t harm others. 40% tax bracket, fine, it’s not perfect, but I’m a big fan of turning on the news and seeing NEWS, not FEAR and HATE.
So I’m just going to keep taking my trips 2-3x a year to the states, hitting the outlets for cheap stuff, seeing the big cities and imagining what they must have been like when America was the place to be. Sorry America, you were once my dream, but not any more. You can keep your Patriot Act and your No Child Left Behind and other assorted bullshit, since 2001, you’ve totally lost your mojo. You’re just a playground now, and it’s a shame most of your citizens are too busy with their iPhones, Taco Bell Supreme Anal Explosions and NFL teams to care.
You make some very good points. I actually agree with several of them.
Here’s where you’re missing the mark:
Bullshit. You’re overstating it.
Bullshit. Few Americans are worried about stolen jobs. MANY are worried about stolen services and benefits.
You may have been a lot of places in the US but your tally would pale in comparison to where I’ve been. My perspective even though it may be tainted by the fact that I am American is thus much much more extensive than yours.
FWIW I have spent a lot of time in BC, AB and ON.
Canada can most certainly take a much more laid back attitude for a couple of particularly good reasons. Their big brother to the south has been toting much of Canada’s load for several generations.
America vacuums up most of Canada’s exports - almost single-handedly propping up Canada’s economy. If Canada disappeared tomorrow it would definitely hurt the US economy but the US would easily survive. If the US disappeared tomorrow Canada would disappear about 2 seconds later.
Canada spends about 35 bucks a year defending North America. The American taxpayer has borne the brunt of defense and military spending for BOTH countries for generations. This frees up the Canadian government to occupy itself with all other kinds of kindnesses for its citizens.
Sorry, been a little busy. I agree with #1 totally. Part of the reason Canada’s standard of living is so good and our public finances are so good is that we sit on top of America. I never said it was FAIR, just more peaceful. The “Why” that is may be totally unfair, but that doesn’t change the facts.
As for #2, I totally disagree. The rap the Canadian armed forces have is largely undeserved. Starting from World War II on to today, Canada has usually been at America’s side here and abroad. Consdier Juno Beach / Omaha Beach and extend onward. Canada, despite it’s posturing, has actually sent troops to both Iraq and Afghanistan in order to relieve overextended American forces.
What’s important to note is that this was done despite everyone except for GWB and his Oil Crew realizing Iraq was a friggin’ wild goose chase and bombing Afghanistan from the stone age back to the paleolithic age wouldn’t really accomplish much. (How’s it working out for you now America?) In other words, the Cdn government committed troops and LIVES to a cause that it did not deem just, only because it recognized the value of its relationship with America.
The posturing here is to appease the peaceniks, while dealing with the harsh reality that world politics are. War being politically unpalatable.
Canada has spent $7.7 billion in Afghanistan as of 2008. And the Armed forces are still there. So I’m sure a new figure updated now would be double that, but I can’t seem to find one.
Consider what passes for news in America, you can be forgiven for thinking those forces are comprised of a beaver in a canoe with a pea shooter. But now that you’ve been told, just remember America isn’t the only country that has sacrificed.
Look who is #3. Considering America is exactly 10x as populous as Canada, I’d say the ratio holds.

You mean, unless you are a religious conservative (Jewish, muslim, or Christian) and dare express from the pulpit (or whatever) in your church/shul/mosque to your congregation that your religion considers homosexuality a sin, in which case you will be arrested.
Only a certain kind of freedom is permitted in Canada.
Uh, no one would get arrested for that in Canada. I doubt the idea of arresting someone in that circumstance would even cross people’s minds

Do these stats take the size of said nations, and then make the % of what theyre stating equivalent if all the nations in the poll were the same size? because there are obviously nations of many different sizes, which means point is moot unless everything is equal, which i doubt. Doesnt matter cause America is the best.

Yeah and don’t forget about Ernst Zundel, we trampled on his freedom as well.
Oh and we didn’t allow Westboro Baptist Church into our country either.
If you’re going to complain about restricted freedom of speech in Canada, be sure to show support for Fred Phelps and Nazi Ernst Zundel. You guys should consolidate your efforts.

Maybe you might want to follow the news a little more closely.

What fines? Name one religious leader who has been fined in Canada for being anti-gay?
