Iodine replenishment since last Saturday, 12.5 mg per day, at work. My farts smell like WHOA! Never smelled like that… bromine detox. However, my waking temps still have not budged. 97.9-98.0 with little or no variance.
I don’t feel better but I don’t feel worse. Means I can rule out Hashi’s?
Yes, Iodoral. I don’t see my doctor in 3 months, so I may just need to test TPO and TGAB (thanks, Tuna) on my own if I want to explore this now (and pay out of pocket if insurance won’t cover).
tpo is the test for hashi’s no? also tuna u seem to be the expert on thyroid. what if you have the antibodies but they arn’t high? could you still have hashis swings? is this possible? i have read this but I’m unsure. plus isn’t there another test for graves?
Went to the STTM site, and it said you have to test both TPO and TGAB (or as LEF calls it, ATA)… because one of them could be normal and the other could be high.
I just joined LEF as a monthly member and gonna order the test. LEF combines these two into a single test order.
My resting heart rate has trended upward since the time I started taking iodine. Previously, my resting was in the 55-58 bpm range. Now it is clocking in at 60-63 bpm. I see that bradycardia (slow heart beat) is one of the many symptoms of hypothyroidism. While my body temps haven’t responded (yet), my heart rate appears to have increased slightly.

Another interesting observation in regards to IR:

That’s a sign of more T3.
Do you have more energy? feeling better?
I know you started IR, but in case others are reading, its good to rule out hashi first.

You need both TPO and TGAB for Hashi. Ideally you also want to get a thyroid ultrasound and thyroglobulin qn. The ultrasound reveals cysts, nodules, and goiter. The last one can detect inflammation and cancer.
From what I know hashi swings can show in TSH, T3, and T4 because the destruction of the thyroid can cause periods of hyper and hypo. If the antibodies are borderline high its possible it could be the beginning stages of hasi, but a few antibodies well under range is usually not a problem. STTM has a lot of good info.

More energy and feeling better? Not particularly. Maybe its bromide detox, but I’m taking relatively low doses of Iodine (12.5 ED) for IR… at this rate, it will take 60 days to build 0.75 g in my body. I still feel about the same, tired and sluggish on some days, and other days are just “okay”. Not great.
I could speed this process up by taking 25-50 mg ED, but I want to rule out hashi’s before I take much larger doses. If tests come up negative, then I’m in the clear, and I’ll go to 25-50 mg.
I think the HCG is working, balls have been hanging firm and nice. But there seems to be a diurnal pattern in the past several days… when I get up in the morning, the balls are tight and high up, and then as the day progresses, the balls start to move down and hang. By evening, they are hanging nicely and have firmed up. Then the next morning, high and tight… and so on.
Is this diurnal pattern normal? (I apply T and inject HCG in the mornings)
Hmm. Strange. I do have sleep maintenance issues… waking up at 3 am every night, though I do get back to sleep easily most of the time. Maybe I’m grasping at straws here, but this weird diurnal pattern could be linked to adrenal fatigue?
I plan to do a saliva cortisol test next month if possible, but in the meantime, I’m taking lots of vitamin C and B-complex to give my adrenals a break if they need it.
Next step: get saliva cortisol labs and hope/pray the cortisol levels are not too low. If they are, then adrenal fatigue is indicated and I’m going to have to spend months self medicating my way out of this mess. Maybe later I could ask for a trial on thyroid hormone.
