Oh lord, reading comprehension is weak this morning.
On a related note, now that I live in Tx, I’m sure I could ask anyone on my street or pumping gas next to me and they’d gladly give a reference.
Oh lord, reading comprehension is weak this morning.

Well, now that you’re living in Texas, I’m sure your right to own a firearm is no longer contingent upon the actions of others. As it should be.
Do they ask for social security numbers for those references?
No, and it shouldn’t be required for purchasing a firearm either.
To be fair though - if you can’t find 3 references which don’t have a criminal background, are we sure we want that person to be buying a firearm in the first place? It was probably one of the more effective gun control legislations that has come out…
You shouldn’t need references in the first place. NJ vets prospective gun owners more strictly than the federal government vets immigrants.
I agree.
Is the above really a law written in order to make it harder for blacks? Or is it just a by product that wasn’t intended?
If someone believes it was written in order to make it harder for black people to buy guns legally then that person would have to also believe that black people have more criminal tendencies and more criminal connections than whites. Why else would you think the purpose was to make it harder for blacks?
Now if anyone believed the above then they would also believe it’s justified to make it harder for them to have guns because they again believe blacks to be more criminally active.
Which brings us to the very reasonable point above.
If you don’t think making it harder for black people to have guns is justified then you don’t believe black people are more criminally active. If you don’t think black people are more criminally active then how can you think the requirement of 3 non criminal references is written to make it hard for black people and not just written to make it harder for people with criminal connections
It’s NJ, so probably yes.
No. It’s that people who live in high crime areas like inner cities are more likely to be acquainted with people who have criminal records.
I don’t agree with that logic. If the individual applying does not have any disqualifying criteria then who he is acquainted with should not matter.
Or, you believe someone trying to obtain a gun legally is not the problem when it comes to gun violence regardless of his race or where he lives.
Birds of a feather flock together. Being unable to find three people you are associated with who don’t have a criminal records is a red flag.
If your kid’s friends all do drugs, it’s a safe assumption that so does your kid
If a woman’s friends are all slutty, it’s safe to say she’s not model wife material
If your friends are into illegal activities, it’s a safe assumption to say so are you.
But what makes these people black. Like you said the law was written to make it harder for black people so it needs to be written with the knowledge and purpose that black people would be the people living in those areas. The only reasoning someone would have to think that’s the case is if you believe that high crime areas = areas where more black people live.
It really isn’t. They can’t be family. You need to have known them at least 3 years. They need to be willing to submit to a background check.
The reality of an inner city is that people can have criminal records for all sorts of non violent crimes. People in the inner city may have smaller circles of friends. They don’t leave the inner city and make connections with people in other communities.
Not in the Constitution.
Or they committed one offense in the past. And if the second part is true, why would you be applying for a permit to purchase a gun legally?
Genetics.
The history of gun control shows that laws were written to keep guns out of the hands of black people. This was sometimes explicitly stated.
Would be living? No, are living.
Or, areas where more black people live tend to be areas with higher crime. I know you’re probably trying to pull out some racist gotcha moment but unfortunately for you, statistics bear this out.
Back on-topic, Liz Cheney was unexpectedly defeated in her Republican primary. Who could have guessed that acting like a democrat would be a losing strategy with Wyoming republicans?
This makes Liz Cheney just like Abraham Lincoln, according to Liz Cheney. She seems to be putting herself out there as a serious 2024 candidate.
Maybe someone has finally come along to free me and the other two jar slaves out there. Maybe there is still hope.
I don’t think it was unexpected.
I checked with my people and it turns out you are correct. It was a very expected loss.
I read on the internet that Liz Cheney has invited Harriet Hagelman on a bird hunting trip with her and her father.
That’s the Cheney family for you, always good sports, always ready to share their love of hunting and shotguns.
Where will Liz Cheney move to run for Congress now, or is she stuck with running for President?
The sky is the limit if she joins the Democrats.
She could follow in Hillary’s footsteps and represent the people of New York. She might make a good senator from Delaware too if she can paw and sniff enough scared little girls to endear herself to Delaware Democrats.
She can always be a guest on CNN, or start a bird hunting guide business with her dad.
Maybe Hunter can hook her up with some Ukrainian Energy consultants, or he can just teach her how to paint like a professional.
If you think there aren’t GOP carpetbaggers, you would be wrong.
Should I be thinking about adding a #Tulsi 2024 tattoo to my growing tapestry of Tulsi-themed body modifications? I’m not sure, but I’ll send her another hand-written letter to ask her opinion.
Hey 2jar, it’s been a minute.
I’m still hoping for a Tulsi/Desantis ticket.
It could very well happen. They’re both my age, with plenty of opportunities to run together in the coming years and decades even.
It would be a big break from tradition to run a pair of good-looking, well-spoken and intelligent candidates, especially considering that an enchanting beauty like Tulsi will probably never exist on the entire planet ever again.
