Absolutely … A loss isn’t necessarily the worst thing … especially a loss like they experienced last night. Belichick won’t let it go to waste that’s for sure … they’ll be an improved team because it for sure.
Regardless, I prefer them playing tough teams than the lower tiered teams they’ve faced mostly so far. Baltimore always plays them tough and they’re more entertaining games b/c of it.
I like Baltimore (I know you all have intraconference rivalries and those Steelers-Ravenes games are always fun to watch) … I did enjoy watching Jackson last night … but those kind of QBs rarely last long in the league. Always hope that they do but if history is an indicator…
Mobile QBs - great. Too mobile, definitely easy to counter eventually. We could easily infer that continuously trying to run past the giant men tasked with protecting you, directly into the arms of other giant men who want to hurt you, might lead to longevity problems.
Cam is out for the season, someone will definitely try to pick him up but will he be content being a number 2 with (maybe) a chance to compete for the starting role?
From a greater strategic standpoint, what’s the lifespan of a “mobile” QB? It seems like 2.5 - 3 seasons before opposing DCs and injuries pile up. In which case, the greater lesson is you draft a running QB, extract every last yard out of them and make sure the team has an out after year 1 or 2 of their second contract if you choose to resign them.
The key is to get a guy like Rodgers - mobile enough to escape and extend the play, but not so mobile that they bail and run after checking their #1 option.
People are saying Adam Gase is temporarily off the hot seat with this ugly win against the Giants.
Let’s break this down:
A rookie QB threw for 4 touchdowns against us. Thank god for for Jamal Adams, but that was ugly.
With time running out and a chance to get a first down and end it, Gase goes to Bilal powell for the last two runs. Leveon Bell takes the first one for 4 yards. Next 2 plays- Bilal Powell -4 yards, Bilal Powell 1 yard. Ball punted, but the Giants have used all their timeouts and we have 3. Easy, right?
With less than a minute left, and with all three timeouts remaining, and the opposing team having no timeouts, Adam Gase challenged 2 completely ambiguous plays back-to-back. Anybody who’s anybody knows that you need a lot of proof to overturn a call. He lost 2/3 of his timeouts in 11 seconds before the Giants had run the clock at all.
This ugly ass win against Pat Shumur, who wants to run Saquon Barkley up the middle 13 times for a total of 1 yard is not a relief, it was a condemnation of Gase’s terrible coaching.
What the hell happened to the NFC champion Rams? Did they run the wheels off Gurly last year? He had 3 really good runs, got stuffed a few times then sat. Maybe that $45 million guaranteed is weighing him down. They said something about knee arthritis on the broadcast?
Goff is not the same human he was last year either.
The Steelers defense is looking truly legit at this point even with Tuitt hurt (after 5 first rounders it should be). They held the Rams to 3 offensive points. Minkah Fitzpatrick is making a case for DPOY.
As for the Steelers offense, um… the receiving core dropped 6 on target passes and had a stupid fumble yesterday. James always hurt Connor is still out and we’re down to a 180lb scat back that Aaron Donald literally picked up and dropped yesterday.
If you’re betting on Steeler games this season, don’t bet the over.
I was at the game on Sunday and it was truly a battle of the defences. At no point did it feel like the Rams were ever really a threat to score. I’m not sure what’s going on with the Steelers’ offence either. Overall, they are pretty ineffectual but when they actually let Rudolph throw downfield they actually have some success. I don’t know if it’s Fichtner who’s afraid to let him do so or if it’s a lack of confidence on Rudolph’s part but things seem to happen when they try any pass that isn’t a little check down.
Everyone is amazed at their turnaround but when you look back at their 4 losses, 1 loss was by 2 points to a good Seahawks team, one was by 4 to the NFC leading 49ers and one was by a FG in overtime after a JuJu fumble to a top 3 Ravens team. Only the loss to the Patriots was a true beat down. They could very easily be 7-1 right now while using their 2nd and 3rd string QBs and without Tuitt, Conner, juju and others for significant periods. If they could get some rhythm going on offence and finally put together an offensive scheme that works to Rudolph and Conner’s strengths, they could do some damage over the next few weeks with a schedule that features some of the league’s worst teams.
Is it my wishful thinking because I picked him up for free for my fantasy team, or has James Washington become the best WR on the Steelers? Is that Okie connection finally starting to click?
Washington has made some circus catches and he and Mason are connecting well.
Juju keeps pulling CB1’s like Jalen Ramsey and he just can’t get open very well. That gives Washington more opportunities. Washington isn’t going to rack up points for you unless he has a breakout game.
Not sure what to tell you about starting Washington tonight. If connor is actually healthy the Browns are shit against the run and they want to keep Miles Garret away from Mason. In that world expect 30 runs from connor and Samuels and checkdowns only from Mason.
They can’t have him holding on to the ball for 5 seconds like a muppet and getting knocked out.
Garret has Villanueva’s number (as much as I respect that AV) so I don’t think Washington will get more than 5 catches for 65 yards.
Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. I agree, and will be watching the game tonight just to “scout” a little bit more.
I’m pretty much a lock for the playoffs already. I have Washington stashed with an eye towards Week 16 (against the crappy Jets secondary) if I make it that far. Washington would probably replace Robert Woods, who has a tough match up against SF on the road; plus, apparently “#RoadGoff” is now a thing, because Goff has been so awful on the road LOLOL!
