its going to be a year long battle this time… I think they should start their own thread. The “Sardines vs Randman NBA Thread”
That has a nice ring to it dont ya think?

Yawn.

I’m obviously a smart enough basketball fan to know the Heat will get much better. Shit, Wade was a shell of himself out there. That being said, I was just calling out the ridiculousness of people saying this team was going to break the 72 win record. Fat chance.

I can already see the headlines on ESPN and in every news papers sport section across the country:

“MIAMI HEAT ARE TIED FOR THE WORST RECORD IN THE NBA”

Wow i agree with you. Plus having the best record has meant shit for a while.

It’s way too early to make predictions but I think Boston will be in the finals again, at least the Eastern Confernce Finals. Way too much depth and Doc is an amazing coach.

Why do you assume Wade will get healthier while playing a regular season schedule? He might be ilke that for a while.

I just made my preseason NBA bets (or I would have, if betting was legal). I think Wade misses ~20 games or so this year, LeBron scores less but ups his rebounds/assists and wins MVP again. But it’s anyone guess whether Orlando, Boston or Miami comes out of the East. I don’t see the Bulls as having enough (and I’m a rabid Bulls fan). I mean seriously… Deng is overmatched by LeBron, but it’s WAY worse when you realize Korver/Bogans/Brewer will be guarding Wade. /shudder

OKC is good, but I really think they are falling into “so underrated they’re overrated” category. They have the 2nd best odds to win the West behind the Lakers, they are VERY unlikely to have zero injuries to all of their top-7 players again, and they didn’t really make any improvements roster-wise. They are good but I no longer think they’re underrated.

I think the Blazers are the team to watch. They had unfathomably bad luck with injuries last year. They were clicking really well before the injuries, and now they have that same roster plus Camby who’s still pretty beast.

The Magic are getting way underrated in the East. They’ve been close to equals with Boston for a while but for some reason never get talked about all that much. Howard can feast on the zombies the Heat rotate at center, and can protect the rim against Wade and LBJ’s drives (as well as any human realistically can).

Anyway, I noticed myself placing bets on the Blazers and Magic a lot. I think the Blazers are about even with OKC and the Magic are right there with the Heat/Celts, but they are getting nowhere near the requisite amount of respect from vegas.

Even if he misses 20 games he will get healthy again I’m pretty sure. Miami will still be a formidable team by the end of the season, to me there’s no doubt about that. But because they are struggling to jell with so many new players, injuries, etc I don’t think the end up with the best record in the east. I think Orlando will. But I still think the Celtics will come out of the East. They’re size and defense is too much for Miami and still will be come playoff time.

It will be a rematch of the battle of the titans.

If they keep limiting Yao’s minutes and he can stay healthy come playoff time, I actually think Houston is the biggest threat to the Lakers out of the west. Brooks and Martin in the backcourt just give the Lakers fits.

I have to say that Lakers-Rockets opening game was spectacular by the way. What a way to kick off the season.

Well yeah but I never make predictions that assume health from Yao. Kobe can check Martin when healthy and he plays a lot more minutes in the playoffs.

Also I like the Jazz, IMO Boozer-to-Jefferson is an upgrade. Jefferson is a better low post scorer and an inch or two taller. Neither can defend but at least Jefferson blocks some shots.

Celtics’ biggest problem will be age/injuries.

It will be interesting to see if Rivers can keep up that insane team defense with Thibaudeau gone. They’ll need it when trying to defend Wade and LBJ at the same time. Let’s face it, Ray can’t stay in front of Wade 1-on-1, he’ll need help. The Heat can do multiple things on defense because the Lakers showed you can effectively play Rondo’s man 10ft off the ball. Celts best offensive option might actually be Shaq vs. the band of schmoes the Heat have at the 5.

Ok done getting ahead of myself. Hopefully I can watch Chi-OKC tonight, two exciting teams this year.

does anybody have a reliable link to watch games online?

not always reliable but atdhe.net
