Lakers lack of consistency is killing them. It is incredible to me that they’ve gone on these tremendous scoring runs, offensively and defensively firing on all cylinders, and really looked like a championship team. But, they’ll only do it for 10 minutes… maybe.

Meanwhile, Boston has just held on and plowed through and scraped by and gotten it done down the stretch. They’ve been far more consistent, far tougher, and generally played the better game.

It is not the way I wanted this to go down, since the Lakers can be so brilliant, and when it clicks it is just a joy to watch.

Tonight’s win was hard fought, however, I really liked that LA came out so strongly two games in a row, and maybe if they can dial in on that some more they’ll stretch it to 7. I got to admit though, my faith in this one is pretty much worn out.
Is it the lakers lack consistency, or the celtics lack defensive consistency? Not that it’s bad, but out of the blue, paul peirce will decide to guard kobe and the whole tempo of the game changed.

When I saw Boston coming back from a 19 point deficit I thought “Here we go again…” I thought the same thing again when Boston had a lead a couple of times. Lucky steal (foul?) by Kobe in the late fourth sealed it for them though. Boston is gona be pumped when they go back home. I thought that Perkins being out of the game(s) would have a bigger impact on Boston however they held their own, this shows the depth of the team.
It did make a difference on the boards. The overall margin was negligible (37 total and 11 offensive for Boston vs. 40 and 10 for LA), but LA got a handful of extra possessions in the 2nd half because Boston’s small-ball lineup got outmuscled for rebounds.

Some of the talking heads were mentioning how Gasol and Odom really stepped up and came to play. They left out that part where they didn’t have to worry about that 6-10, 290 lb man in green in the middle in Game 5. It wasn’t a huge, game-changing effect, but Perkins was missed.

Some of that is Boston, but a large part of it is LA’s youth. They’re still pretty young, they haven’t yet figured out how to integrate Gasol well (he’ll score 10 pts on 8 FGA’s in the first ten minutes and then not touch the ball again for 30 minutes), and Gasol and Odom aren’t quite mentally tough enough to be the real secondary threats that Kobe needs. And then they haven’t had Bynum since January.

LA clearly has the pieces in place to be a great basketball team in the future, but they overachieved somewhat to even make it to the Finals this year and just ran into a Boston team that was better right now.

While it’s possible that they can still come back to win the title, it may be better for this team’s long-term development to get whacked by Boston this year. Let them taste defeat in order to refocus rather than have it all come too easily for them.

It was all the losing that Pierce, Allen, and Garnett experienced earlier in their careers that gave them such an edge this season. If LA’s young guys learn from this (potential) defeat, they could develop into something special.

Good post. This paragraph pretty much sums it up.

I’m just glad the Celtics won’t be celebrating on the Lakers’ home floor.

All the talking heads today have been acting like tonight’s game is more like a coronation than an actual game.

Every time they do that, the written-off team often ends up winning.

Boston really needs to show up and play hard. If they start thinking like the commentators are talking, then LA is going to steal this game tonight.

Boston is better, but they’re not so much better that they can just show up and win easily.

I think the Lakers have a good chance tonight, if they play aggressively, but I still think it’s a moot point. Winning the final two on the road is asking too much.

Perk and rondo are starting tonight good sign…16 wins to 17 banners one to go!

Btw part of me hopes the celts lose tonight, I got tix to game 7 if it goes that far

Wish the friggin games werent so late though, damn west coast.

A Celtics fan waits for the start of Game 6.

This guy had better play like a man if the Lakers are to have any chance.

Celtics lead after one quarter. Here, Paul Pierce and Pau Gasol fight for a rebound.

Kobe Bryant drives between Boston’s Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen during the first quarter.

Celtics are starting to take control of this game…

House rules: This game is over at halftime.

Good post here Gunslinger. I agree with all of your points.

And as much as it pains me to see LAL lose to BOS in particular, it is good to see that the Big Three will finally get their rings. And let’s face it, they really had to win considering how damaging a loss wouldve been to their respective career legacies.

it’s a 30-point slaughter at this point. God I hate the Celtics. But I like KG a lot and I’m happy he’ll get his ring.

“Could you just hand me my ring now? Thanks.”

Looks like my man KG is finally gonna win a ring. He’s been my main man for a LONG time, and I couldn’t be happier for him. It’s well deserved.

Congrats KG: your time is now.

thank god the Celtics will win, can we shut up about the MJ/Kobe comparisons now.

though, the Celtics might have the biggest blow out in history, which the Bulls had verse the Jazz 96-54 IIRC

This pretty much says it all.

you sure 'bout that

Kobe is the closest thing to MJ there has been. In terms of his skill set and work ethic there is a close comparison. MJ never won jack shit without a solid supporting cast and neither will Kobe or KG or anyone else. It’s still a team game.

With that said, MJ is greater than Kobe, no doubt about that.
