I dont “want” to be lumped in with anyone. I leave that up to you and anyone else to decide.
I also dont believe skin pigmentation is inherently correlated to crime, though i dont dispute the glaring statistical disparities…
BUT, at the end of the day, i believe this case is far more shocking, and has far more to go off of from a race standpoint than the Trayvon Martin case ever did, yet its manage to fly quietly under the radar for most.
I have seen 1 single facebook post about this, and have not heard it mentioned outside of the internet by anyone i work with or communicate with on a daily basis. Its disgusting.
Call it race-baiting if you want, i think im just calling attention to a gross double-standard that is perfectly relevant right now.
No, I hope you don’t and I don’t want to lump you in with those two. I’ll admit in some cases the statistics don’t look good; however, all these stats do is highlight an extremely complex issue and I’m all for discussing that issue and the drivers behind the statistics.
The problem is guys like Walkway don’t care about the underlying cause or causes of an issue like this. They just use a soundbite or one, “analysis,” to justify their racism. Ignoring the complexity of the issue completely.
I won’t speak on the social media aspect you brought up because I’m not on social media. All I do know is I saw the story on a number of major news websites including CNN, Fox, NYTimes, etc…
I have also not heard any details pointing to this being racial motivated.
Im not familiar enough with Walkway’s alleged racist comments to speak on that.
And while im not arguing that this was a racially motivated case, there was some evidence (via social media) that at least one of the assailants wasnt the biggest fan of white people.
What im saying is, its ridiculous that there was such complete and widespread outrage, and this massive media frenzy that accompanied the Zimmerman trial (which i still maintain that if you looked at ALL the evidence, the man was justifiably innocent) but in the case of a poor old WWII vet being mercilessly beaten to death by 2 black teens, the only notable detail is that he was old.
To clarify, i dont want this to turn into some racially charged media frenzy because i actually find that sort of thing digusting, mainly due to modern mainstream media’s complete inability to accurately report and inform people on such cases. All im saying is that i find this double-standard outrageous. I hope that doesnt make me racist, wouldnt want to have to explain that to my dad about my black step-mom and two black-step brothers. Agree on Zimmerman and the media.
