Or what an invitation is.
All of the people being prosecuted broke into the Capital. Maybe they had the political BELIEF that it was OK for some ignorant reason, but it was not.
So you meant to say he doesnāt understand the incident in question.
No. I mean he doesnāt understand the Constitution.
Why unite ? Too many on the left are just far too hateful, bitter and psychotic. Best to distance yourself from miserable rejects like that.
Where have we heard this before?
As an academic, his politics are irrelevant. Most liberals are unaware of his academic writings. His political writings are separate from his academic work and are not taught at universities because they are not considered academic works. He may be the liberalās public intellectual, although Chomsky dislikes public intellectuals, since Gore Vidal and Christopher Hitchens are dead.
While he may not, only one of those quotes involves constitutionality. And it shows a misunderstanding of the incident at most. Thereās no doubt that hunting down Trump supporters is unconstitutional, so your argument is that he doesnāt understand WHY SOME were hunted down.
ā¦that is the question!
Youāve got that one backwards.
As an academic, Chomskyās politics are exactly what makes him relevant. If not for his radical politics heād be an obscure linguist known by few.
Heās just one more formerly obscure person in a long line of formerly obscure people elevated socially and financially by radical leftist politics. By now heās made a career of explaining away abject policy failures heās advocated for across decades, paving the way for the next generation of leftist radicals to repeat his process.
@NickViar @marine77 are you two saying you dont want to find middle ground with your countrymen?
If so, to what degree are you unwilling to find middle ground?
I hope it is clear that this exact ideology is what makes the far left look so fucking crazy. The leftists were so unwilling to find middle ground that they have:
- impeached trump for peanuts
- ignored Bidens hidden dealings with ukraine/china
- ignored Hillary spying on a sitting president while manipulating the CIA and FBI into a 3-year long witch hunt that ended up implicating Hillary herself and the Obamas
What Iām getting at is that we cannot take hard stances of āno middle groundā because thatās how civil wars start.
Hunting people down and purging them because you donāt agree with them is unconstitutional.
Saying it is unconstitutional to āhunt down Trump supportersā who were involved in an attempt to overturn and election and broke into the Capital is a clear misunderstanding of the Constitution.
I remember my public speaking professor from college frequently made jokes at Chomskyās expense. I never cared to understand why then, and itās 12 years too late to find out now, but he was a cool dude so I always just took it at face value that Chomsky was lame.
I remember reading Chomskyās Hegemony or Survival right around the same time I read Zinnās A Peopleās History of The United States in my early 20ās.
I was one of those liberals who was liberal at the time because Bush was bad and liberals were good. All of the smart people knew it to be true. Of course I thought both of those guys were brilliant back when I was convinced of my own brilliance, despite being unable to form a coherent political thought of my own.
Back-on-topic, I think it is 100 percent safe to say that we will only be blessed with a Joe Biden presidency for a single term at most.
I feel just as cheated as the rest of you. Oh Providence, why must you be so cruel?
He agreed it was.
I canāt and wonāt speak for him, but I have no desire to do so. I want the country to divide. I am fine with being allies, but do not believe vastly differing political beliefs and legal interpretations permit the country to be united under one banner. And itās not at all a bad thing.
I have zero desire to find middle ground, on many issues.
No. Itās not. They have a completely different ideology. What makes the Left look crazy is that it believes men can be women, etc.-Edit: it wouldnāt seem less crazy if the Left said, āIf your penis is shorter than X, you may be a woman.ā
In other words, itās not a matter of degrees or willingness to compromise.
True civil wars, maybe. Not a āCivilā war like this country had in the mid-1800s. I have no desire to control Washington, D.C.
Iām still hoping our next great leader is a pansexual, multiracial dwarf.
This is incredibly short sighted thinking
No. Itās sensible. I donāt want to be part of something like the USSR. Mega-States are not good for the people within.
This is pretty tribalistic my friend. I think many on both sides do not what to unite, but I donāt think that it is most for either side.
IRL, I have a fair number of good friends with considerably different political views. I have friends that are way out there on both sides. There is enough in common that we donāt have to let the political differences separate us.
I think currently there is a lot of focus on things that donāt matter much in the grand scheme of things (at least imo). Culture war stuff. That stuff is being pushed to divide.
Please draw a map of how you would split the county. Does all of California go to the blue side? What about my country? Were the most red county in the state⦠do we have to go with the left US branch?
