Can someone please tell me where this figure came from? Honestly, I’ve been seeing it EVERYWHERE lately, unreferenced, and I really like to know how it came into being.

Well, it all depends on what you’re talking about. Real estate, cash or stock.
As far as I know, the top 1% in the world controls about half the wealth. It’s a bit less for the US, but, the bottom 40% control 1%. There are heaps of data out there but they’re all a bit dated and a lot has happened recently that made the filthy rich even filthier, err…richer. Anyway, I think the latest and most comprehensive study was from the UN. Look it up. I think the branch is called the “World Institute for Development Economics Research of the United Nations.”
Now, if you go into the top 5% for example, I’m certain it’ll be a lot more than 90%.
